Job summary

Flewelling & Moody is seeking a Project Architect in California to lead design, documentation, and construction administration. You will mentor designers, coordinate BIM workflows, and ensure quality and code compliance across phases.

The role requires serious leadership, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple consultants while maintaining the design intent and schedule. California experience and licensure are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Licensed Architect in California.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural team through all phases of design, documentation, bidding, and construction administration.
  • Coordinate and mentor Architectural Designers, Job Captains, and Interns while fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Take ownership of the preparation, coordination, and quality control of construction documents utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows.
  • Ensure project documents meet Flewelling & Moody’s standards for quality, constructability, coordination, and technical excellence.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams, including structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty consultants.
  • Lead project code analysis, accessibility compliance, and DSA coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and consultant deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable California Building Codes.
  • Participate in client meetings, consultant coordination meetings, agency reviews, and construction meetings.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, ASIs, change orders, and field observations while supporting successful project delivery.
  • Conduct site visits and construction observations to ensure design intent and quality are maintained throughout construction.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers/Principal-in-Charge to manage project schedules, staffing, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Promote continuous improvement through mentorship, technical leadership, and adherence to firm-wide BIM and quality standards.
  • Lead technical decision-making throughout the project while maintaining design intent, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Be well organized, highly proficient in English, with strong written and communication skills
  • A representative of Flewelling & Moody’s vision, mission, and values on a day-to-day basis.

Job description

As a Project Architect, you will be entrusted with the technical leadership and execution of your projects. We are looking for someone who takes genuine ownership of their work; someone who can independently develop, coordinate, and deliver complete, accurate, and thoughtfully detailed construction document packages from design through DSA closeout. What You Will Do:

What You Will Bring:


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.

  • Licensed Architect in the State of California.

  • 10+ years of experience in all phases of a project from programming to construction documents and administration.

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects through all phases, from programming and schematic design through construction administration and DSA closeout.

  • Strong experience with California educational facilities (K-12, higher education) and DSA processes.

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and resolving complex technical challenges.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of California Building Codes, accessibility requirements, and construction detailing.

  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of technical quality.

  • Passion for mentoring and developing emerging professionals.

  • Recent work experience in California is a plus

  • High proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Photoshop, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, Autodesk Forma, Word & Excel.

  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with principals, project teams, and consultants.
