Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a mid to senior-level Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist within our cultural resources practice in California. You will work with the wider National Cultural Resources team to develop strategies for growing cultural resources work for specific clients in California. You will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI), providing senior oversight for junior staff, managing large client-specific programs and projects, and ensuring quality assurance for cultural resources work in California. Experience with planning and permitting for linear infrastructure in California, at federal and state levels, is required.

Role accountabilities:

You will apply your technical/business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions, interact with project managers and directors, and provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff. As a PI, you will manage multiple projects, conduct field assessments, and lead fieldwork, requiring knowledge of GPS and physical stamina for long hours and carrying supplies. Travel up to 25% may be required. You will also prepare technical documentation and review project documents.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology.
  • Master’s degree in archaeology or related field.
  • At least 7 years of cultural resources management experience, including field and office roles.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience on linear utilities projects in California at a PI level.
  • Experience with cultural resources planning for linear infrastructure (electric, gas, water, sewer, oil, etc.).
  • Experience working with federal land agencies (BLM, USFS, NPS) and state agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 of NHPA.
  • NEPA/CEQA experience.
