Job summary

Arup is seeking a Project Commercial Manager to lead commercial operations on major infrastructure projects in Seattle, San Francisco or Los Angeles. You will provide financial leadership, manage costs, subconsultants and contract changes while improving project performance.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in a related field, 8+ years in engineering/design or construction, and strong Excel/Power BI skills. A Master’s and Design-Build experience are preferred.

  • Advanced Excel, data manipulation, VBA, Power Query and spreadsheet design.
  • Experience in Power BI dashboards; PowerPoint for reports is desirable.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 and MS Project is desirable.
  • Experience with Power Automate and PowerApps is desirable.
  • Comfortable with SharePoint, Forms, Lists to streamline tasks.
  • Design-Build experience with major contractors preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in consolidation of budget estimation and resource planning.
  • Prepare a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and integrate with schedule and budgets.
  • Utilize financial systems including earned value to monitor performance and produce dashboards.
  • Track actual spend against budgets, conduct variance analyses, and report performance issues.
  • Lead the monitoring and management of scope changes; maintain change and risk registers.
  • Prepare and issue monthly client invoices and monitor accounts receivable.
  • Collect, collate and review timesheets of project team members.
  • Prepare monthly client reports to demonstrate project progression and performance.
  • Manage sub-consultants’ commercial issues and track costs/payments.
  • Lead staff mobilisation for new resources and develop annual work plans.
  • Identify commercial improvements and efficiencies on the project.

We are currently seeking a Project Commercial Manager to join our team in Seattle, San Francisco or Los Angeles, to work on various large infrastructure projects in the West Geography.

The focus of this role is to provide strong commercial leadership to project managers, directors and business administrators in the areas of financial management, general commercial support, contract administration, subconsultant management and bid support.

The Opportunity

  • Lead the implementation of project specific cost control processes.

  • Support the Project Manager to ensure project profitability and other commercial goals are met.

  • Assist in consolidation of budget estimation and resource planning.

  • Prepare a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for new projects and understand how schedule is integrated with the WBS and budgets.

  • Utilize financial systems including earned value to monitor financial performance, project costs and other performance parameters and metrics, leading the production of performance dashboards.

  • Track actuals spend against budgets, conduct variance analyses, lead reporting of project financials and respond to queries from project teams on performance issues.

  • Lead the monitoring and management of scope changes; maintaining change and risk registers and preparing fee proposals and contract change orders.

  • Comfortable in preparing and issuing monthly client invoices and monitoring accounts receivable.

  • Collect, collate and review timesheets of project team members.

  • Prepare various monthly client reports as required to demonstrate project progression and performance.

  • Manage sub-consultants’ commercial issues including preparation of sub-consultant agreements, track costs, and review invoices and payments.

  • Lead staff mobilisation process for new resources.

  • Lead the development of the annual work plan for the project.

  • Consistently look for Commercial improvement and efficiencies on the project.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

  • Master’s degree in construction management or business preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in engineering design or construction industry services.

  • General knowledge of commercial management and experience in contractual matters including understanding main contract types and their commercial implications, and ability to read and interpret key contract clauses.

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively and manage deadlines; highly organized.

  • Strong analytical skills related to data and able to tell a story tailored to the audience.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working and team leadership skills.

  • Proactive, willingness to take on additional responsibilities without having to be assigned.

  • The ability to work independently and seek appropriate review and support.

  • Have advanced knowledge of Excel, data manipulation, formulas, VBA macros, Power Query and spreadsheet design.

  • Experience in PowerPoint for report preparation is desirable.

  • Experience in PowerBI including configuring and maintaining existing dashboards or creating new ones is required.

  • Experience with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project is desirable.

  • Experience with Power Automate, PowerApps is desirable.

  • Comfortable using digital and automation tools such as SharePoint, Forms, Lists, etc… to streamline routine commercial tasks is required.

  • Design-Build and experience working with or for major Contractors in a Design-Build and Progressive Design-Build environment is preferred.

Seattle Hiring Range — Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Seattle is $134,000 to $175,000 year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Seattle will differ.
