Job summary

Arup’s Seattle office is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide engineering services on design and construction projects. You will perform geotechnical site investigations, analyze soil–structure interaction, and work with structural engineers to develop foundations, retaining walls, and deep excavation designs.

The role requires 5+ years of geotechnical experience and a WA state-licensed PE. Proficiency with geotechnical software and PLAXIS is valued, along with strong communication

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of geotechnical experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington State (or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential for team-based work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage geotechnical site investigation programs.
  • Undertake projects requiring soil–structural interaction analyses.
  • Collaborate with structural/bridge engineers to develop foundation, retaining wall, and deep excavation designs.
  • Perform design and analysis using industry-standard software for excavations, foundations, seismic site response, slopes, and underground structures.
  • Conduct ground movement predictions and building damage assessments.
  • Prepare engineering design reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.

Arup’s Seattle office is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide engineering services to its clients on design and construction projects. Typical design tasks include performing geotechnical investigations, shallow and deep foundation design, retaining wall design, geotechnical parameter development and ground characterization, ground-structure interaction and construction impact assessment, hydrogeology, slope stability, settlement analysis, and ground improvement.

The opportunity

  • Perform and manage geotechnical site investigation programs
  • Undertake projects requiring soil –structural interaction analyses
  • Work alongside structural and bridge engineers to develop foundation, retaining wall, and deep excavation designs.
  • Perform design and analysis using various industry standard engineering software for excavations, foundations, seismic site response analyses, slopes, and underground structures, etc.
  • Perform geo-structural finite element analysis using modelling software such as PLAXIS
  • Conduct ground movement predictions and building damage assessments
  • Interpret subsurface conditions and understand their impact on design and construction
  • Observe construction site works
  • Preparation of engineering design reports, design calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary design team to deliver detailed design for major infrastructure projects

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering (min), Masters in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Geotechnical
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington State or equivalent
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential for team-based working

Seattle Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Seattle is $110,000 to $130,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Seattle will differ.
