Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) seeks a Project Accountant to manage finances for Project Managers and Principals across offices. You’ll review contracts, ensure accurate job-cost accounting, and generate invoices.

You’ll support GAAP compliance and provide timely financial insights to leadership, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and responsiveness. The role requires 3–7 years in general accounting, AP/AR, and Excel proficiency, plus government contracting experience and industry knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or management or equivalent.
• 3-7 years of practical accounting experience, including AP/AR.
• Government contracting and procurement experience a plus.
• AEC industry experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as accounting and finance resource for technical professionals on assigned projects.
• Review contracts and other project documents for financial and reporting requirements.
• Work closely with project managers and principals to ensure accuracy and proper accounting for job costs and earnings.
• Generate invoices and supporting documentation based on contract terms and input from project managers and principals.
• Manage collection of accounts receivable and reconciliation of cash receipts.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and provide detailed and timely financial information to project managers, principals, and company management.
• Monitor and analyze progress against budget and make recommendations to improve project performance.
• Verify subcontractor and vendor invoices to ensure adherence to contract terms.
• Advise on accounting best practices and act as authority on and within the context of GAAP and the firm's internal accounting policies and procedures.
• Maintain accounting files and records.
