Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years in cost accounting or project accounting; construction experience preferred.

  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights to address issues promptly.
  • Prepare and process client invoices and subcontractor pay applications; ensure contract compliance.
  • Generate and maintain detailed financial reports, including job cost summaries and WIP schedules.
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with policies and maintain organized records for audits.

Job description

The Project Cost Accountant at Megawatt Construction plays a critical role in managing the financial aspects of large-scale data center construction projects. This position involves monitoring project budgets, analyzing cost data, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. The Project Cost Accountant collaborates closely with project managers and other stakeholders to maintain financial control and support project success.

Essential Functions
  • Budget Management: Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain detailed project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial goals.
  • Cost Tracking: Monitor and track project expenses, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs, to ensure adherence to budget.
  • Variance Analysis: Analyze cost variances and discrepancies, providing insights and recommendations to project managers to address issues promptly.
  • Invoicing & Billing: Prepare and process client invoices and subcontractor pay applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
  • Financial Reporting: Generate and maintain detailed financial reports, including job cost summaries and Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, for management review.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all financial transactions comply with company policies and industry regulations; maintain organized records for audits and reporting purposes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project teams to identify and resolve financial issues, providing support and guidance as needed.
Position Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in cost accounting or project accounting, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Excel; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP reporting, and AIA billing.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations affecting the construction industry, including tax compliance and financial reporting requirements.
Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree (MBA or similar) is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a construction-related industry.
