Job summary

Henderson Scott US is seeking a Project Accountant II in the New York area to manage the accounting lifecycle for complex construction projects. Reporting to the Controller, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, assist with contract-based analyses, and lead cross-functional teams on multi-project accounting matters.

The role requires 6–9 years in accounting/finance, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with construction accounting standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
6-9 years of Accounting/Finance experience.
Experience with advanced Excel; Excel certification preferred.
Sage Intacct and Procore experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Maintain an understanding of accounting procedures, general ledger, and subsidiary reports.
Understand financial sections within contract documents.
Create complex reports with internal and external parties.
Manage multi-project accounting and reporting across varying projects.
Process project and subcontractor closeouts accurately.
Monitor actual vs. budget reporting for variances and provide guidance.
Review monthly general conditions reports for variance analysis.
Reconcile project costs and billing deferrals by project type.
Identify improvements to increase reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Create, review, and monitor project cash flow and revenue; resolve variances.
Analyze revenue and expenses over project lifecycles.
Review trade billing rate schedules when requested.
Train and develop junior team members.
Perform tasks independently and demonstrate leadership.

We have an opportunity for a Project Accountant II to join a construction and development company in the New York area. Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant II manages the accounting life cycle of highly complex projects with a high level of proficiency, accuracy, and understanding of construction accounting and reporting. Maintain an overall understanding of accounting procedures, general ledger, and subsidiary reports
Understand financial sections within contract documents
Create complex reports collaboratively with internal and external parties
Manage multi-project accounting and reporting requirements across projects of various sizes and stages, with varying owner and agency reporting requirements
Process project and subcontractor closeouts efficiently and accurately
Monitor actual vs. budget reporting for project variances and provide constructive feedback and guidance
Review ACR and budget vs. actual monthly general conditions reports for quarterly analysis
Reconcile and properly classify project costs and billing deferrals based on project type and preconstruction agreements
Identify areas for improvement to increase reporting accuracy and efficiency and provide potential solutions
Create, review, and monitor project cash flow and revenue while assisting in resolving variances
Analyze and project revenue and expenses over the lifecycle of general contracting projects
Review and understand trade billing rate schedules when requested by the project team
Assist with training and development of new, current, junior, and Project Accountant I-level team members
Perform tasks independently
Demonstrate leadership ability

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
6-9 years of Accounting/Finance experience
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Excel certification preferred
Sage Intacct and Procore experience is a plus
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Strong analytical skills
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Results-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to safely navigate a construction site, including climbing ladders and stairs, using job hoists, working in inclement weather conditions, and navigating hazardous, cluttered, or dark areas

Salary:

$93,000-$120,000 Actual compensation will depend on factors including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and work location.
