Job summary

The ReWork Group is seeking a Project Accountant for a client real estate development firm. You will own project accounting from requisitions through final reconciliation, manage budgets, loan draws, and risk in ground-up residential projects.

You will work with the PM team and Head of Construction to flag variances, chase COIs, and keep draws moving. This role sits at the seam of construction, finance and risk, offering hands-on influence over financial reporting and controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as Project Accountant or Bookkeeper.
  • Experience in real estate development or general contracting.
  • Familiarity with AIA Docs G702/G703.
  • Strong knowledge of budgets, insurance, and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the draw cycle. Process subcontractor, vendor, and consultant requisitions, compile loan draws and G702/G703s, and partner with the construction PM team to review and approve accounting requests.
  • Guard the budget. Maintain project bookkeeping and budget oversight, surfacing overages and potential issues to the Project Manager and Head of Construction before they escalate.
  • Administer contracts. Draft, review, and finalize subcontractor and vendor buyouts, including insurance requirements.
  • Audit relentlessly. Run monthly audits of project costs against investment-approved budgets, maintain and update the ACR across each project's full lifecycle.
  • Own the reporting. Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly reporting packages—income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements—to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage risk company-wide. Work with external brokers to keep construction and condominium insurance current and active.
  • Build the playbook. Establish processes and best practices for the department and maintain schedules, insurance, and permits as needed.
  • Pitch in. Take on additional duties in support of corporate finance and construction teams.

Job description

At The ReWork Group, we partner with high-growth startups and forward-thinking companies to build the future.

Our client is a vertically integrated real estate developer, a firm that sets industry benchmarks and delivers at both the investment and client level. We're looking for their next Project Accountant.

This is the seat where the numbers are the control system for the build. From first requisition to final reconciliation, you own project accounting, construction budgets, loan draws, and risk management for ground-up residential projects. The reporting you produce is what investors, lenders, and leadership trust to make the next call.

It's a role for someone with a motor. You're the person the PM team and the Head of Construction lean on to flag the variance early, chase the missing COI, and keep every draw moving. If you want to run project accounting end-to-end — working at the seam of construction, finance, and risk —this is the one.

What You'll Do
  • Drive the draw cycle. Process subcontractor, vendor, and consultant requisitions, compile loan draws and G702/G703s, and partner with the construction PM team to review and approve accounting requests.
  • Guard the budget. Maintain project bookkeeping and budget oversight, surfacing overages and potential issues to the Project Manager and Head of Construction before they elevate.
  • Administer contracts. Draft, review, and finalize subcontractor and vendor buyouts in support of the construction team — including contractual language and insurance requirements.
  • Audit relentlessly. Run monthly audits of project costs against investment-approved budgets, and maintain and update the ACR across each project's full lifecycle.
  • Own the reporting. Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly reporting packages —income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements — to internal stakeholders and external partners, including investors and lenders.
  • Manage risk company-wide. Work alongside external brokers to keep construction and condominium insurance coverage current and active.
  • Build the playbook. Establish the processes and best practices the department runs on, and maintain the schedule, insurance, and permits as needed.
  • Pitch in. Take on additional duties in support of the corporate finance and construction teams.
What Makes You A Fit:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Project Accountant or Bookkeeper
  • Prior experience in real estate development or general contracting required; public accounting experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with AIA Documents G702/G703.
  • Strong understanding of insurance procurement, buyouts, and renewal processes.
  • Experience with project budget and scheduling oversight.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger functions, and month-end/year-end close processes
