Job summary

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring a Project Accountant in Grand Rapids, MI to support billing, cash flow, and project financials. You will work with PMs, the Controller, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate reporting and contract compliance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years accounting experience, construction/project accounting preferred.
• Associate's or Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance/Business Admin preferred.
• Experience with AIA billing and lien waivers a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills; ability to learn ERP systems like Acumatica.
• Strong analytical, financial reasoning and attention to detail.
• Excellent organization, time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit monthly owner billings, including AIA forms and docs.
• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on invoices to maintain cash flow.
• Maintain accurate project accounting records per policy.
• Analyze project costs and variances with PMs to improve performance.
• Process contracts, subcontracts, POs, change orders, and related docs.
• Verify lien waivers, insurance certificates, and W-9s for compliance.
• Collaborate with customers, subs, suppliers and internal teams on financial data.
• Support project closeouts with final billings and required docs.
• Assist month-end close, reconciliations, audits and reporting.
• Contribute to process improvements for efficiency and controls.

About This Opportunity

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring a detail-oriented Project Accountant based in Grand Rapids to support the financial success of our construction projects. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers, the Controller, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers to ensure accurate billing, strong cash flow, contract compliance, and reliable financial reporting.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and submit monthly owner billings, including AIA billing forms and supporting documentation.
• Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding invoices, and help maintain healthy project cash flow.
• Maintain accurate project accounting records and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Analyze project costs and variances, partnering with Project Managers to resolve discrepancies and improve financial performance.
• Process and track contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and project-related financial documentation.
• Verify and manage lien waivers, insurance certificates, W-9s, and other compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
• Support project closeouts by finalizing billings, payables, and required documentation.
• Assist with month-end close activities, reconciliations, audits, and financial reporting.
• Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial controls.

What we’re looking for

• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, project accounting, or cost accounting.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with AIA billing, lien waivers, project-based accounting, and construction documentation is a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn ERP/accounting systems such as Acumatica.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reasoning skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• A collaborative, accountable professional who builds strong relationships and handles confidential information with discretion.
