Job summary

Virginia Tech Southwest Center in Abingdon, VA is seeking an Administrative and Program Coordinator to manage outreach programs, support daily operations, and enhance visibility through digital marketing and promotional materials.

The role requires experience in higher education or hospitality/event coordination, strong marketing skills, and proficiency with Canva/Adobe. Occasional travel and flexible scheduling are possible; salary is hourly with 20–30 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Experience in a higher education setting or hospitality / event coordination environment.
• Experience developing, implementing, and managing marketing and social media content across multiple platforms to promote programs, events, services, or organizational initiatives.
• Experience creating digital and print promotional materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Campaign, or similar platforms.
• Must have strong technical skills such as word processing, Excel, email, internet navigation, online learning platforms, and audiovisual equipment.
• Excellent organizational skills; able to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously and prioritize.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle changes professionally.
• Must be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operations of the Southwest Center as needed.
• Serve as primary contact for faculty, students, clients and participants for programs.
• Create and distribute marketing materials, update website, manage social media content.
• Coordinate liaison tasks between students and university units.
• Oversee program implementation, including budget, timelines, and vendor management.
