About Hack the Hood

Hack the Hood (HtH) is an Oakland-based nonprofit advancing economic mobility through free, paid-to-learn technology education and career navigation. We equip Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander youth and young adults ages 16–25 with technical skills, confidence, and opportunities to shape their futures. Our justice-centered programs include technology, data science, and AI learning. There ain’t no tech without us!

The Opportunity

The Programs Manager leads day-to-day implementation of HtH core programs, from enrollment through graduation. This role coordinates cohorts, instructors and resources; builds trusting relationships with learners; strengthens retention; and uses reliable data and feedback to improve program quality. The role works closely with Technical Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Career Pathways, under the Director of Programs & Partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation & Quality 30%

Coordinate cohort schedules, launch readiness, staffing, materials, learning labs, workshops, showcases and graduations across in-person, hybrid and virtual programs.

Partner with Technical Instructors and Teaching Assistants to monitor delivery, troubleshoot issues, maintain milestones and strengthen inclusive, youth-centered experiences.

Facilitate orientations and nontechnical activities; implement program improvements with the Director of Programs and Partnerships.

Learner Experience, Retention & Success 25%

Serve as the primary nontechnical contact; build relationships, community and belonging through consistent communication and engagement.

Monitor attendance, participation and progress; proactively reach out to disengaged learners and coordinate individualized support.

Use culturally responsive, trauma-informed approaches and learner feedback to support completion.

Program Operations & Systems 20%

Manage onboarding, eligibility documents, rosters, attendance, milestones and accurate Salesforce records.

Coordinate stipend documentation and payment requests, equipment, supplies, spaces, events and learner logistics.

Manage laptop and equipment inventory, including quarterly counts, check-out/replacements and reconciliation.

Maintain procedures and timelines, support budget tracking, protect learner data and improve operational workflows.

Recruitment, Enrollment & Partnerships 15%

Execute outreach and recruitment with schools, community organizations and partners; present at information sessions and events.

Coordinate applications, selection, enrollment and communications; track recruitment pipelines, capacity and barriers to access.

Evaluation, Outcomes & Improvement 10%

Coordinate surveys and assessments; track enrollment, attendance, retention, completion and satisfaction.

Prepare cohort updates, identify trends and improvements, and ensure complete learner records and warm handoffs to Career Pathways.

Working Across Teams

The Director sets strategy, priorities and key institutional partnerships. Technical Instructors own technical instruction and curriculum delivery. Career Pathways leads alumni support, career readiness, internships, apprenticeships and post-program advancement. The Programs Manager owns coordination and learner experience during core programs, not technical curriculum development or job placement.

Qualifications
Required

4+ years in youth development, education, workforce development, nonprofit programs or a related field; experience coordinating programs or multiple projects.

Strong relationship-building, facilitation, communication, organization and problem-solving skills; experience engaging youth and young adults.

Comfort with spreadsheets, databases, tracking outcomes and maintaining accurate records; commitment to racial equity and youth-centered practice.

Experience using culturally responsive practices with BIPOC youth.

Preferred

Salesforce or CRM experience; Bay Area school/community college partnerships; paid-to-learn programs, stipends, dual enrollment or technology education.

Experience with surveys, performance data and trauma-informed or restorative practices.

A degree or an equivalent combination of professional and lived experience is welcome.

What Success Looks Like

Cohorts launch prepared and on time; learners feel supported and stay engaged; retention and completion are actively managed; program records and reporting are reliable; instructors receive strong operational coordination; and graduates transition smoothly to Career Pathways. Annual targets are set with the Director.

Work Environment & Equal Opportunity

HtH offers competitive health and wellness benefits, as well as PTO and professional development opportunities. This Bay Area role requires regular in-person work in Oakland and occasional evening or weekend activities. HtH is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations during hiring and employment.
