  • Maintain department technology inventory and assist with tech requests and basic troubleshooting.
  • Update the department website and manage social media; implement campaigns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

General Information:

The History Department at JMU seeks applications for a full-time Program Support Technician. This position plays a vital role in supporting daily operations while promoting a welcoming and professional environment for the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the History department office and main phone line. Provide accurate information and guidance to prospective students, visitors, students, faculty, and staff, directing inquiries to the appropriate resources as needed. Provide administrative support to faculty, staff, and students. Maintains the department calendar, manage incoming and outgoing mail, purchase office supplies as needed, and assist with departmental meetings, events, and special projects.
  • Student Administration System Management. This includes entering class schedules in conjunction with Academic Unit Head and Assistant Academic Unit Head, creating student permissions and overrides, and monitoring approvals in MyMadison.
  • Serve as the Wilson Hall building coordinator. Maintain and monitor the building schedule and digital signage. Process key requests and work orders, monitor building conditions, ensure telecommunications systems and copiers are operational, and serve as the liaison with campus departments for events scheduled in Wilson Hall.
  • Serve as the fixed assets and technology coordinator. Maintain an accurate inventory of departmental technology and equipment. Assist faculty and staff with technology requests and basic troubleshooting, including printing and peripheral support. Develop technology budget recommendations and submit purchasing requests to the Fiscal Coordinator.
  • Serve as the website and social media coordinator. Ensure timely and accurate updates to the department website and social media platforms. Develop and implement social media campaigns to promote departmental programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Significant customer service experience.
  • Technological proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable system.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and manage multiple responsibilities amid frequent interruptions and competing demands.

Additional Considerations:

  • Ability to run queries and reports, with the ability to synthesize and understand the results.
  • Experience with social media and web design.
  • Experience with Student Administration System.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat.
