Job summary

Base Pay: $24.00 / Hour

The Program Specialist plays a key role engaging youth ages 11-14 years old by supporting outreach efforts that encourage pre‑teen club membership, providing positive mentorship and coaching, and implementing a variety of engaging activities.

The Program Specialist facilitates curriculum focused on a mix of academic, character and leadership, and career exploration materials. Afterschool activities range from recruiting and encouraging youth to participate in Jr. Youth of the Year, partnering with the Site Coordinators to holistically support youth, leading civic engagement activities that support a Leaders in Training or volunteer culture.

Essential Functions of the Position
  • Create positive and supportive relationships with pre‑teen members.
  • Assure pre‑teens are safe and engaged in activities. This includes following all safety requirements for Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Plan field trips, cultural engagement activities, workshops, and civic engagement projects during the school year, out of school time, and over the summer.
  • Collaborate with Site Coordinators to increase the number of youth engaging in pre‑teen programming and connecting with other club teams.
  • Design and implement emotionally intelligent and age‑appropriate programming. This includes building programming that allows pre‑teens to explore, be creative, and try new things.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grant data, and detailed case notes demonstrating strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Provide individualized support to youth basic case‑management practices including goal setting, progress monitoring, and connecting youth to resources when needed.
  • Apply trauma‑informed practices to support youth social‑emotional development and respond appropriately to behavioral or mental health needs.
  • Direct and provide pre‑teens with clear steps and tools that support goal achievements and healthy decision making.

Requirements
Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate
  • Demonstrated experience working in the youth development field with older youth or teens.
  • Experience with case management, youth advocacy, or related administrative documentation.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time‑management skills with attention to details.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed care, youth mental health, and social‑emotional development.
  • Ability to design and implement age‑specific programming and curriculum.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability. Must lead with good judgment, be able to set healthy boundaries, illustrate patience, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to set a positive example for pre‑teens and peers in presence, attitude, and behavior.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and communities and know how to build an inclusive environment for pre‑teens.
  • Must participate in required training by the Club, County, State, and/or funders.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and TB test.
  • Must obtain/maintain a current CPR & First Aid Certification upon employment.
