Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles seeks a Program Coordinator to oversee club programming in partnership with the Site Director, ensuring high-quality activities and outcomes for youth.

You will supervise staff, coordinate schedules, and strengthen connections with families, schools, and community partners while advancing positive youth development and program excellence.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; two years of college experience or equivalent.
  • At least two years of direct youth service experience.
  • One year of supervisory or leadership experience in a youth org.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and background checks required.
  • Must pass criminal background check and TB test.
  • Experience with at-risk youth is a plus.

Description

The Program Coordinator works in direct partnership with the Site Director to oversee the delivery of all program areas within the Club. Assists in supervising and training program staff and performs other related administrative duties. Serves as a liaison between parents, schools, community groups and Club members. Supports behavior management strategies and goal setting for all Club members. In the absence of the Site Director the Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the sites programming.

Job Responsibilities
  • Communicates, implements, and enforces BGCMLA operational policies and procedure.
  • Ensures a fun, healthy and safe youth friendly environment, ensuring facilities, grounds, equipment and supplies are clean and well maintained.
  • Promotes and stimulates program participation and provides guidance and role modeling for members.
  • Assists in the optimal use of Club facilities, staff and resources to fulfill organizational mission and strategies.
  • Assists Site Director in analyzing and reviewing Club’s membership levels, average daily attendance and frequency of attendance.
  • Works with Site Director to develop and implement strategies to increase membership and attendance.
  • Assesses the needs, interests and characteristics of the youth to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome-driven club experience.
  • Effectively plans, implements and actively supervises programs, services, and activities for members.
  • Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, program outcomes, quality in programs and appearance of the site at all times.
  • Evaluates and encourages program participation for targeted programs.
  • Supports in the identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals utilizing NYOI, YPQI, observations, etc.
  • Ingrains the five (5) key elements of positive youth development into the Club’s Culture.
  • Independently supervise large groups of youth, both indoors and outdoors, with youth safety as a top priority.
  • Recognizes and reacts quickly to problems – arguing, fighting, horseplay, etc. – and stops the undesirable activity quickly. Assists in conflict resolution with parents and members, communicates behavior expectations and issues.
  • Works with staff and members to correct unsafe behaviors and ensures emergency procedures are followed, takes actions to prevent accidents.
  • Supervises program staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of, interest in, and respect for the community the Club serves.
  • Assists in developing and cultivating partnerships within community organizations and school systems to advance programs at the Club.
  • The Program Coordinator assists with the completion of attendance reports, program schedules and calendars, grant implementation, grant reports, performance outcomes, etc.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
  • High School diploma or GED, minimum of two years of college experience. Prefer a four-year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of direct youth service experience and a record demonstrating youth program project management, planning, and implementation. Previous experience working with at-risk youth.
  • At least one year of demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience at a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization. Other relevant experience may be considered.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Hold a valid drivers’ license and pass motor vehicle driving record check.
  • Pass criminal background check.
  • Pass (negative result) a TB test.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS
  • Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, and programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs; principles and practices of supervision and management; principles and practices of project management; principles and practices of youth development and quality programs.
  • Skilled in understanding of group dynamics and ability to run group activities; planning, organizing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating program activities; and working towards positive outcomes.
  • Ability to supervise, train, motivate and coach staff, assesses challenges; builds trust and respect among fellow team members; values the input and know-how of other team members; organizes and prioritizes time well and focuses on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision; demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in the quality of work performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING
  • Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
  • Work is performed in the community as well as an office setting.
  • Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends – evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required
