Job summary

Lackawanna College is seeking a Program Specialist – Legal Studies to support the Program Director and help ensure the program's success.   • Involvement in student and program assessment from admission to post-graduation per the program assessment plan.
  • Oversee publication of the Law Journal.
  • Serve on College committees as needed.
  • Participate in activities that demonstrate professional expertise in administration, teaching and Legal Studies competence.
  • Assist in publicizing and disseminating information about the Legal Studies program.
  • Assist Director with measuring student attainment of program competencies and outcomes.
  • Participate in Lackawanna College professional development opportunities, including CTL and adjunct training.
  • Provide academic advising and course planning support for students.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The Program Specialist – Legal Studies is responsible for supporting the Program Director Legal Studies (“Director”) to help ensure the program is successful. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to multi-task, strong leadership abilities, and good time management and organizational skills. The Program Specialist – Legal Studies position is a non-tenure track position.

This position is visible to the entire College community and to the public at all levels and routinely interacts with all constituent groups of the College as well as prospective clients and students.

This position is primarily remote, however, in person attendance may be required in limited circumstances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assume teaching duties as assigned by the program director within the Legal Studies program as a core program staff member.
  2. Provide tutoring assistance to students that require it as assigned.
  3. Prepare students for success in program progression (including but not limited to advising), obtaining employment upon program completion, and/or continuing their education.
  4. Assist the Director in the developing of, conducting, coordinating, and evaluating the experiential learning opportunities related to the Legal Studies Program.
  5. Maintain current knowledge of the legal studies profession and educational methodology through continuing professional development.
  6. Participate in curriculum design and ongoing curricular assessment of the legal studies program aligning with ABA standards.
  7. Assist the Director with ABA re-approval and compliance tasks.
  8. Involvement in all areas of student and program assessment from admission to post graduation as outlined in the program assessment plan.
  9. Oversee the publication of the Law Journal.

  4. Knowledge of current trends in post-secondary education and a willingness to incorporate them into lessons, materials, and assessments.

  7. Proven ability to think and work strategically, and to view processes from a holistic perspective.
  8. Must be able to function and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Excellent collaboration and customer service skills.

EDUCATION:
  • Juris doctorate (JD) required
EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 5 years of actual industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing/revising curriculum preferred.
  • Teaching online preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Position will require the ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, bend, twist, grasp, sit, talk, hear, see, climb and perform repetitive motions.
  • Position will require the ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, and push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
