YMCA of Delaware is seeking a Program Specialist focused on karate at Brandywine YMCA in Wilmington, DE. This part-time role leads structured karate classes for youth and teens, adapting activities to age and skill level.

You will teach fundamentals, emphasize safety, provide feedback, and support participants' growth. The position offers competitive pay of $15-$18 per hour, plus opportunities for retirement and professional development.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and facilitate karate classes by age and skill level.

• Demonstrate techniques with clear instruction, correction, encouragement and feedback.
• Modify activities to accommodate different skill and developmental levels.
• Incorporate age-appropriate activities to keep participants engaged while supporting skill development.

Rate of pay: $15-$18. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.

Essential Functions:

• Plan, prepare, and facilitate structured karate classes appropriate to participant age, experience, and skill level.
• Teach foundational and progressive karate techniques, including stances, movements, blocks, strikes, kicks, forms, and other skills appropriate to the program.
• Demonstrate techniques clearly and provide participants with appropriate instruction, correction, encouragement, and feedback.
• Modify activities and instruction as appropriate to accommodate different skill and developmental levels.
• Incorporate age-appropriate activities that keep participants engaged while supporting skill development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of karate fundamentals, techniques, terminology and safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional qualifications specific to each program (such as certifications or degrees in dance, sports, or education)
