Job summary

The City of Pleasanton is seeking a Program Specialist in the Environmental Services Division to support programs that protect the community, local waterways, and the environment. Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor disposal of hazardous waste generated at City facilities and properties.
  • Maintain hazardous waste documentation, including manifests, records, and regulatory entries.
  • Perform monthly Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure inspections for storage tank facilities.
  • Coordinate Underground Storage Tank compliance activities including inspections and contractor scheduling.
  • Update compliance information in systems such as CERS, tracking spreadsheets, binders, and City databases.
  • Support annual Hazardous Materials Business Plan updates, including site map and inventory verification.
  • Perform On Land Visual Trash Assessments to support stormwater permit compliance.
  • Track air emissions permit information for facility generators and coordinate reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, compliance activities, deadlines, and reporting.

The City of Pleasanton is seeking a motivated Program Specialist to join our Environmental Services Division and help support programs that protect the community, local waterways, and the environment.   • Comfortable balancing field inspections, technical documentation, reporting, and database tracking

  • Organized and capable of managing multiple regulatory deadlines, inspections, and compliance records
  • Adaptable and willing to develop broad knowledge across several environmental regulatory areas
In This Role, You Will
  • Conduct weekly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas at the Operations Services Center Corporation Yard to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Monitor, track, and coordinate proper disposal of hazardous waste generated at City facilities and properties
  • Maintain hazardous waste documentation, including manifests, records, and information in applicable regulatory systems
  • Conduct and document monthly Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure inspections for aboveground and underground storage tank facilities
  • Coordinate Underground Storage Tank compliance activities, including inspections, testing, contractor scheduling, documentation review, and deficiency follow-up
  • Update and maintain compliance information in systems such as CERS, tracking spreadsheets, physical compliance binders, and City databases
  • Support annual Hazardous Materials Business Plan updates for City facilities, including site map review, contact updates, and chemical inventory verification
  • Perform On Land Visual Trash Assessments in support of the City’s stormwater permit compliance requirements
  • Track air emissions permit information for City facility generators and coordinating reporting information with appropriate City staff
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, compliance activities, regulatory deadlines, and reporting requirements

  • Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented in conducting inspections, tracking records, and maintaining compliance documentation
