University of Hawai'i at Manoa - OVPSS - SEED seeks a Program Specialist to mentor student scholars and design/lead program activities across high school to graduate level. You will collect data, collaborate with partners, and support outreach to engage students in project programming.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, social sciences, arts and humanities, science, education, business administration, public administration, Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student success, higher education access, graduate school preparation, and mentoring.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations related to working with minors in Hawai‘i.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and collaborative online tools.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides mentoring, guidance, and support tostudent scholars at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate school levels.
  • Designs and implementsprogramactivities including but not limited to, professionaldevelopment and academic workshops, career readiness, community service projects, graduate school summer bridge program, and mentoring opportunities.
  • Collects andcompilesgrant activities and student participation data including programand community event attendance, academic progress, andcareer or advanced degree plans.
  • Works collaboratively withthe project team to design, deliver, and evaluate program objectives and activities.
  • Coordinates with existing college access programs in the partner high schools and college retention programs at University of Hawai‘i campuses to supplement services.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with partner high schools, UH System affiliateddepartments/majors, industry partners, and community organizations.
  • Designs,develops, and facilitates an outreach plan to engage students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels to participate in project programming.
  • Conducts workshops andprogramming for prospective students from project high schoolstoapply to andenroll at UH Manoa.
  • Connects students with necessary support services on campus and within the broader community as needed.
  • Collects student program data and assists with survey data collection. Assists the PI with designing and implementing processes for data collection, surveys and student interviews throughout the grant cycle.
  • Processes and maintains purchasing records related to program expenses, stipends, supplies, etc.
  • Participates inprojectteam planning meetings, SEEDstaff meetings, and other meetings as needed.
  • Attends professional development activities including training, workshops, and conferences.
  • Travels to and from co-location sites to partner high schools, conducts meetings with partners,attends various program related events in the community, and participates in local and national student affairs, or higher education related professional development and trainings, which may include working outside of normal business hours such as evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student assistants and volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in liberal arts, social sciences, arts and humanities, science, education, business administration, public administration, Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language, or related field or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for N/A; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student success, higher education access, graduate school preparation, and/or mentoring demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with working with minors in Hawai‘i Department of Education High Schools, undergraduate, and/or graduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of advising college bound/college pursuing/graduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and word, excel, powerpoint, google docs and forms, zoom, canva, and other relevant programs.
  • Ability to work with student support needs and challenges across a broad range of student populations and their families.
  • Knowledge of student success and support programs for undergraduate and graduate students in a university setting.
  • Ability to develop innovative and engaging student success programs and services.
  • Strong attention to detail, and ability to keep meticulous records for Kawehena student participants.
  • Knowledge of recruitment, outreach, and publicity for services and programming for college students.
  • Ability to conduct workshops and professional development offerings with high school and/or college students.
  • Knowledge of college bridge programs, including programming, student support, and experiential learning.
  • knowledgeofcollege undergraduate and graduate school admissions processes, FAFSA, financial aid, college readiness and retention programs.
  • Ability to work effectively, individually or in a team setting with individuals from varied backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate and present to small and large audiences, as well as work 1:1 or in small groups to convey information.
  • Ability to travel to and from co-location sites in a timely manner by means of personal vehicle with valid driver’s license or comparable means of transportation to perform duties such as conducting meetings or presentations.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, SocialWork, Social Sciences,Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience creating collaborative partnerships for student programming with on-campus student success programs and academic departments
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of federally funded grant programs.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing collaborative partnerships with University of Hawaii grant focused departments and majors related toproject objectives.
  • Experience with RCUH, Kuali, and other UH fiscal systems and procedures.
