Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking a Program Service Technician 1 to provide high-level clerical, administrative, and technical support for Gifted & Talented programs. You will review documents, analyze data, and prepare reports to support compliance with state and district requirements.

The role includes monitoring ongoing activities, assisting with program operations, and coordinating with district staff and external providers.

Qualifications

  • Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma. Coursework in business administration, accounting, statistics, or other related field is desirable.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a public or private agency performing duties similar to the specialty for which application is made and knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

PROGRAM SERVICE TECHNICIAN 1
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general direction, performs highly responsible, complex, and diversified clerical, administrative, and technical support functions. Incumbent performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Administration, Analysis & Compliance
  • Reviews, completes, and processes technical documents applying thorough and detailed knowledge of the appropriate laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the department or program; gives information regarding the special and/or technical program to district personnel, service providers, vendors, and/or the general public.
  • Researches, assembles, tabulates, and analyzes data from a wide variety of sources; interviews and consults with district and department officials. District personnel, service providers, vendors, and others to give and receive information; prepares detailed narrative and/or statistical reports for administrative review and control; makes recommendation on procedures, policies, and program alternatives.
  • Reviews proposed changes to existing contracts, procedures, policies, and new legislation; advises departmental heads on the potential impact to program operations; makes recommendations for necessary actions.
Program Operations & Support
  • Monitors on-going program activities initiating or recommending changes to improve program efficiency; performs responsible clerical functions to accomplish assigned programmatic duties.
  • May review subordinate account clerks or office assistants.
When assigned to Gifted & Talented

This position will compile and technically interpret data for Gifted and Talented eligibility to prepare routine and special reports required by state and district uses; Responsible for submitting paperwork as required for allocation purposes for GT Teacher positions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:

Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma. Coursework in business administration, accounting, statistics, or other related field is desirable.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a public or private agency performing duties of a nature similar to the specialty for which application is made and which provided working knowledge of the pertinent laws, rules and regulations governing the specialty for which application is made.

Licenses/Certificates: None required.

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:

  • Laws, rules, principles, and practices of the functional areas germane to the specialty for which application is made;
  • Report and correspondence writing;
  • Public sector administration, and business operational practices;
  • Governmentian accounting and control;
  • Enterprise software systems and business applications related to areas of specialty;
  • Modern office practices, business processes, and technology systems.

Knowledge of: For Gifted and Talented:

Knowledge of laws, rules, principles and practices of the functional areas relevant to Gifted and Talented programming regulations and procedures. Knowledge of writing reports, computer programs, current office methods, procedures and equipment, as well as website creation and maintenance.

Skill in:

  • Working independently;
  • Understanding, interpreting, and applying laws, rules as they relate to specialty area(s);
  • Gathering and analyzing data;
  • Preparing clear, concise narrative and statistical reports, records, and correspondence;
  • Performing advanced administrative and technical duties;
  • Proficiently preparing and managing electronic documents, records, and correspondence
  • Utilizing office technology and software applications.
  • Evaluating situations accurately and taking effective courses of action;
  • Exercising sound judgment, diplomacy, and professionalism in a variety of situations;

Skill: For Gifted and Talented-

In addition to the above, The ability to create and develop systems for monitoring students and programs and maintaining website development and updates. Able to run Excel, Infinite Campus, Word, OnBase, Various Microsoft Applications, SharePoint and computer programs as needed for the variety of job tasks.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing,
  • Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.
