Base pay range

$55,000.00/yr - $68,000.00/yr

Through our grant making program, the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) works to close the gap between what our veterans and service members need and the resources available to them. This position is responsible for reviewing grant applications, recommending funding decisions, and monitoring grant progress. Key responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintaining understanding of ongoing and emerging needs in the military/veteran community
    1. Monitor ongoing research about services for and policy pertaining to the military/veteran community
    2. Improve subject matter expertise in investment focal areas and work collaboratively to improve BWF team knowledge
  2. Managing applicant pipeline
    1. Solicit and evaluate applications
    2. Organize and participate in site visits
    3. Draft, create, and process award letters and other application responses
    4. Respond to internal and external referrals and requests for funding
  3. Providing functional and substantive expertise to improve the military/veteran service sector
    1. Support, engage, shape, and improve BWF Got Your 6 partners and grant applicants
    2. Contribute to the development of programming, including webinars and convenings
  4. Monitoring grants and articulating the impact of BWF’s investment
    1. Track the impact of investments
    2. Review and analyze partner reports
    3. Create reports for BWF, BWF’s donors, and other stakeholders on grantmaking program impact
    4. Contribute ideas and supporting information for development of BWF grant proposals
  5. Other tasks, responsibilities, and individual projects as needed
Qualifications

Education

  • Recent graduate of bachelor’s degree program
  • Concentration or coursework in public health, public policy, social work, program evaluation, sociology and/or statistics preferred
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and consistent focus on quality
  • Developing project management skills; able to take initiative on needed tasks, know when to ask for support, and follow-through to completion

Technical skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, online file management (e.g. Dropbox, Smartsheet), video conference software (e.g. Zoom), digital document management (e.g. DocuSign)
  • High level of comfort learning to use digital tools, such as team communications software (Outlook, Slack)
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce preferred

Communication and collaboration skills

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Represent the entirety of the Bob Woodruff Foundation with professionalism, discretion, and responsibility
  • Flexible approach to teamwork
  • Ability to work independently and be self-disciplined in a virtual work environment is essential

Experience in and/or knowledge of any or all of the following preferred:

  • Military life and culture, and the issues and concerns of veterans and military families
  • Municipal/civic/community systems of care
  • The nonprofit sector
  • Public policy
Working conditions

Virtual work environment. Travel to current and prospective partners, conferences, and other BWF activities may be frequent for this position.

The salary range for this position is $55,000-$68,000.
