Job summary

Jewish Federation Los Angeles is seeking a Program Manager for the LA jBabies Community to engage expectant families and newborns through Jewish literacy and PJ Library initiatives. You will develop programs, facilitate baby playgroups, and connect families to a meaningful Jewish life in LA.

The role supports the Families with Young Children team, reports to the VP, and requires travel and occasional evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

  • BA degree preferred; 2-3 years of outreach/community organizing experience.
  • Ability to reach out, schedule, organize, and maintain notes on every experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; engaging and proactive.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with donor databases or related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic engagement plans and organize activities for families with children under 18 months.
  • Build and grow baby playgroups for babies born within the same four-month period (0-12 months).
  • Organize diverse gatherings for children 12–18 months and empower intimate local events.
  • Identify resources to implement playgroups and cultivate community relationships.
  • Track involvement and events using the Blackbaud donor CRM.
  • Staff Families with Young Children events and PJ Library initiatives.
  • Assist with strategic planning, grant writing, and funder reporting as needed.
  • Monitor expenses for program initiatives and travel as required.

DESCRIPTION OF TEAM:
As an integral part of Federation’s Ensuring the Jewish Future Strategic Initiative, the Families with Young Children Team is responsible for helping families with Jewish children under 12 feel a sense of connection and belonging by living a Jewish life that is joyful, meaningful, and relevant to their lives. When every Los Angeles family with young Jewish children feels connected to their identity and their community, we will have a thriving, resilient, and interconnected Jewish LA.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Vice President of Families with Young Children, the Program Manager, LA jBabies Community, works with families with children under 18 months to reinvent and reimagine what it means to be Jewish. The Program Manager will introduce new families to the value of Jewish literacy and PJ Library while also providing easy access to meaningful Jewish moments.

A Program Manager, LA jBabies Community, is a dynamic and engaging position for energetic, personable, and well-rounded people with a keen interest in community building for expectant Jewish families and families with newborns from birth – 18 months. Warmly referred to in the field as “Connectors”, you are passionate about building Jewish community and galvanizing new families in L.A. to “do Jewish” in a way that’s meaningful, relevant, and creates longevity. You are a social weaver, great at deep conversation, and
equally comfortable planning supportive baby groups and creative programming, intimate gatherings, and large-scale experiences.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Develop strategic engagement plans and organization of activities and connections for families with children under 18 months through five primary activities:
  • Build, maintain, and grow facilitated baby playgroups for families with babies born within the same four-month period for families with babies 0-12 months.
  • Organize diverse scales of ongoing gatherings or experiences for families with children 12-18 months.
  • Empower intimate local gatherings.
  • Identify resources necessary to implement playgroups.
  • Develop, cultivate, and steward relationships with families with young children.
  • Build a network of families raising Jewish children who receive PJ Library books through authentic, peer-to-peer relationships.
  • Utilize a customer service relationship management system (Blackbaud) to track community-member involvement and participation, relationships, and event participation.
  • Cultivate vibrant & meaningful Jewish life in target Los Angeles neighborhood/interest groups for families with young children in conversation with community partners, connecting the activities of LA jBabies with the existing community.
  • Attend & staff Families with Young Children events &/or meetings, including PJ Library
  • Develop, create, and manage impact stories of community members.
  • Participate in strategic planning, grant writing, marketing, funder reporting as needed.
  • Monitor expenses for program initiatives
  • Visit new-parent offerings in target neighborhoods, both within and outside the Jewish community

POSITION DETAILS:

  • No regularly set schedule—one day in office per week or as needed.
  • Flexible work hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Position requires traveling reasonable distances in personal vehicle to work locations on a day-to-day basis; business miles reimbursed.
  • Staff immersive experiences including, but not limited to: PJ Library Family Camp Retreats, etc.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Be available to assist supervisor and Sr. VP of Ensuring the Jewish Future with additional duties and assignments, as required, including assisting with the Campaign.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • BA degree preferred. 2-3 years of relevant experience in outreach/community organizing.
  • Consistent ability to reach out, schedule, organize, and maintain notes on every experience.
  • Passionate creative team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Confidence in building relationships and networks.
  • Commitment and passion to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Savvy social-media networking skills and proficiency in mobile technology
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with donor database or related database systems.
  • Energetic, amicable, flexible, self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Excellent administrative, written, and oral communication skills, and engaging interpersonal skills and telephone manner.
  • Impeccable organization and commitment to follow through, data entry & gathering metrics for evaluation, with ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to multi-task and trouble-shoot, able to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail is a priority.
  • Knowledge of Judaism and appreciation for an increasingly diverse Los Angeles Jewish community a plus.
  • Access to and use of vehicle required for position.
  • A hybrid work model will be implemented for certain positions. This position must report to the worksite on non-remote workdays, as determined by the Federation.
