Job summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County (SLO Bigs) seeks a Program & Match Specialist to support site-based mentoring, recruit and match mentors, and uphold child safety. You’ll develop curricula with the Program Director and engage schools and community partners to grow impactful mentoring programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, child development, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement curricula for school mentoring programs.

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people and fostering a strong sense of community? Join our team as a Program & Match Specialist, where you'll facilitate site-based mentorship programs, ensuring child safety and positive outcomes for youth. In this multifaceted role, you'll recruit, interview, and match mentors with youth throughout San Luis Obispo County, providing ongoing support and guidance to ensure constructive and satisfying relationships. Additional responsibilities also include developing program formats and curricula with the Program Director, establishing relationships with partner schools, and facilitating site-based programs. As a key player in our growing organization, you'll work closely with the Program Director to develop successful program formats and curricula, engage with community partners, and support the continuous improvement of our mentoring programs. Our ideal candidate will be organized, positive, customer-experience oriented, multi-tasker, and have a passion for improving the lives of young people particularly underrepresented or at-risk youth who make up the largest percentage of program participants. This team member will be a strong public speaker, group facilitator, and able to engage mentors and community partners from diverse communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Program Facilitation: Develop and implement curricula for school mentoring programs. Support annual site-based programs at various locations. Design and distribute recruitment, training, and educational materials.
• Enrollment & Recruitment: Support the enrollment process, including recruiting, interviewing, screening, training, and matching volunteers with children and families.
• Match Support: Manage mentorship matches and provide regular support through in-person and virtual meetings to assess and enhance the match relationship. Address and resolve match challenges through coaching, collaboration, and connecting with community resources. Support Matches with goal setting to ensure positive youth outcomes.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed records in Salesforce and other databases according to policies and standards. Ensure thorough screening for child safety and compliance with organizational procedures. Evaluate impact through data collection and surveys, and report on program effectiveness.
• Community & Partner Engagement: Provide presentations on agency programs for recruitment of program participants. Act as a liaison to ensure effective program implementation and coordination.
• Customer Service & Professional Development: Model and practice 360° customer service with all stakeholders, including co-workers, volunteers, and program participants. Participate in professional training to enhance skills and contribute to the agency’s goals.
• Additional Duties: Supervise and train student interns and volunteers. Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, child development, or related field. OR Associate’s degree plus two years of relevant work experience; OR Four years of relevant work experience in social services, child development, youth services, or related fields.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and other systems.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

• Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce database management, and automated forms and calendaring systems. Ability to quickly learn new systems.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail with a results-oriented approach.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing, proof-reading, editing, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
• Time Management: Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Reliable personal transportation, valid driver’s license, and state-required automobile insurance minimums.
