I. JOB OVERVIEW

The Department of Faculty Affairs is seeking a Program Manager for Faculty Affairs to manage a varied project and events portfolio. Supports the following programs which include but are not limited to The GW Academic Leadership Academy (GWALA), The Society of the Emeriti (SOTE), and the Faculty Awards and Honors program. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs, this position requires organizational and strategic problem-solving skills. It requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain time-sensitive deadlines, and convey complex concepts to key stakeholders. This position is expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and conscientiousness in the execution of these duties.

This is a hybrid position based at GW's Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, D.C. While this position is not responsible for the formal supervision of staff, it will lead project teams and delegation of work to other employees. This role is responsible for tasks, duties, assignments, and projects ranging in complexity and often requiring analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supports the day-to-day administrative activities of the Vice Provost and Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs.

  • Oversees and manages all aspects of event and meeting planning for the Department of Faculty Affairs, including but not limited to budgeting, planning, vendor negotiations, contracts, executive preparation, and execution.

    • Is responsible for overseeing the annual Faculty Honors Ceremony held each spring, which recognizes a diverse group of talented GW faculty and graduate student teachers across all ten schools and colleges.

    • Is responsible for overseeing the annual New Faculty and New Academic Leaders Orientation, held each fall.




  • Maintains the calendar for the Vice Provost, regularly prioritizing and arranging meetings, conferences and appointments.

  • Supports the Vice Provost in managing the grievance process related to faculty, including intake and documentation, scheduling meetings, maintaining records, ensuring policy adherence, and overseeing communication and follow-ups.

  • Proactively composes memos, reports, presentations and correspondence that reflect the department's views and Vice Provost's style, as directed by the Assistant Provost. Supports communication creation and distribution for the unit.

  • Liaises with central departments, such as Human Resources, Payroll, Facilities, and others to meet the needs of the unit.

  • Responds to inquiries from senior leadership and handles special requests.

  • Cultivates campus-wide relationships and communication with campus stakeholders.

  • Ensures all administrative issues are addressed properly, efficiently and judiciously. Provides high-level advising on administrative matters to the Vice Provost and the Assistant Provost; exercises strong judgment in handling day-to-day operations while escalating as appropriate.

  • Serves as a liaison between Faculty Affairs and other departments within or outside the university.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Willingness to tackle tasks with enthusiasm, no matter how big or small

  • Professional bearing and communication style; strong writing skills preferred

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google suite of tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides); online platforms for virtual meetings (Zoom, Webex, Google Meet) are desired
