Job summary

South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) seeks a Program Manager for the Office of Laboratory Certification to lead the statewide environmental laboratory certification program. You will ensure accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance across SC laboratories, supporting public health and environmental protection.

You will supervise staff, implement SOPs, coordinate with USEPA requirements, and engage with stakeholders to advance certification activities and program

Qualifications

• A master's degree with sixteen (16) hours of chemistry and five (5) years of environmental experience, or a bachelor's degree with sixteen (16) hours of chemistry and six (6) years of environmental experience.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and coordinate administrative and management functions.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise day-to-day activities of section staff and oversee renewals, evaluations, and certification actions.
• Provide professional and technical advice to agency management and stakeholders on environmental laboratory certification and regulations.
• Develop, review, and implement SOPs; maintain the Office website, ePermitting database, and Celmapp database.
• Generate, distribute, and ensure collection of billing and fees for certified laboratories.
• Complete employee performance management and support agency strategic planning and administrative tasks (TIME, SCEIS).
• Perform other duties as requested.
