Role Overview

The Program Head – Rowing will lead all functions of the sport as directed by the Athletic Director. This person will build a staff, form a team, and develop a schedule to run a program that aligns with the school's mission while competing at the top level. Rowing is a three-season sport at Seattle Prep.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a passion for coaching and deep knowledge of the sport.
• Lead all levels of the program, fostering a strong culture throughout.
• Recruit, hire, and retain a coaching staff of assistant coaches that reflect program goals and school culture.
• Teach team strategies and individual techniques.
• Communicate clearly with school leadership, assistant coaches, student-athletes, and families.
• Manage and steward the program budget, including facility rentals, equipment, uniforms, and competition expenses.
• Assist in maintaining and maximizing partnership with College Club of Seattle.
• Build a calendar of in‑and out‑of‑season activities that maximizes water time, prioritizes success in a strong academic setting, and emphasizes mental health.
• Collaborate with other Program Heads to foster multisport participation, physical strength development, rest, and recovery.
• Represent Seattle Prep, the athletic department, and the rowing program at marketing and networking events.
• Pursue continuing education opportunities such as clinics, college practices, and camps.
• Maintain compliance with Seattle Preparatory School, US Rowing, Safe Sport, and applicable rules.

Qualifications

• Commitment to Prep’s mission and values, especially diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Supportive of the mission of a Catholic, Jesuit high school and whole‑person formation.
• Deep experience and expertise in rowing.
• Prior high‑level coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level preferred.
• Age 21+.
• Valid Washington Driver’s License.
• Willingness to pursue continuing education in the sport.
• Availability for all practice sessions, workouts, games, and related meetings.
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Eligibility for criminal background check and safe environment training upon hire and every 3 years.

Terms

The Seattle Prep Rowing Program follows a three‑season format aligned with the WIAA calendar:

• Fall 2026: August 24 – November 13
• Winter 2026‑2027: November 30 – February 12
• Spring 2027: March 1 – Completion of Nationals in June (if qualified)

Approximately 72 hours per month during season, plus regattas.

Work location varies based on practice and regatta schedule. Possible evening and weekend work required.

Possibility for additional income coaching youth camps and other school initiatives.

Stipend range: $26,769 – $43,113 (paid over 10 months).
