Assistant Coach – Boys and Girls Rowing

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a passion for coaching and deep knowledge of the sport.
  • Coach the assigned level of the program, developing a strong culture that permeates throughout the program.
  • Be equally adept at teaching team strategies and individual techniques.
  • Be able to clearly communicate to all constituents in the program, including being in alignment with the Program Head and Athletic Director on key messaging.
  • Help steward the program budget, including caring for equipment, uniforms and more.
  • Assist in maintaining and maximizing a strong partnership with College Club of Seattle.
  • Support a calendar of activities for both in- and out-of-season activities which maximizes available time on the water, prioritizes success in a strong academic setting and emphasizes mental health.
  • Work with other coaches to foster a culture of multisport participation, prioritizes physical strength development, rest and recovery.
  • Seek continuing education opportunities (clinics, attending college practices, working camps, etc).
  • Maintain compliance with all Seattle Preparatory School, US Rowing, Safe Sport and other applicable rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to Prep's mission and values, especially as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Supportive of the mission of a Catholic, Jesuit high school and formation of the whole person.
  • Deep experience and expertise in the sport.
  • Prior high-level coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level preferred.
  • 21+ years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver's Washington Driver's License.
  • Seeking continuing education opportunities in your sport.
  • Available for all practice sessions, workouts, games and related meetings.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • All employees must complete a criminal history background check and safe environment training upon hire and every 3 years.
Terms and Compensation
  • The Seattle Prep Rowing Program follows a 3-season format that aligns with the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) calendar. Tentative season dates for the 2026-2027 school year are as follows:
    • Fall 2026: August 24 – November 13
    • Winter 2026-2027: November 30 – February 12
    • Spring 2027: March 1 – Completion of Nationals in June (if qualified)
  • Approximately 72 hours per month (3 hours per day M-F in season, plus regattas).
  • Work location varies based upon practice and regatta schedule.
  • Requires possible evening and weekend work.
  • Possibility for additional income for coaching youth camps and other school initiatives.
  • Stipend range: $17,836-35,025 (depending on specific role, paid over 10 months). Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications. This position is not benefits eligible.
