Job summary

The University of Houston invites applications for a Program Director within the Humana Health System Science Institute at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. The role oversees a large program or center, staff, budgets, and projects.

You will lead cross-college initiatives, supervise two program staff plus graduate students, coordinate partnerships (Humana, Houston Health Department, local health systems), plan events, and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field; PhD preferred.
• Experience managing programmes or projects in academic/healthcare settings.
• Ability to work with inter-professional teams and diverse partners.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage integrated programmes across participating colleges (e.g., SHER, undergrad and graduate programmes).
• Oversee day-to-day programme operations, including scheduling, timelines, deliverables, and reporting.
• Review and approve time records, ensuring compliance with programme expectations.
• Maintain programme documentation, workflows, and SOPs to ensure consistency and continuity.
• Support and strengthen relationships with internal and external partners, including Humana, Houston Health Department, TACHC, local health systems, and community organisations.
• Represent the Institute at external events, meetings, and community forums when appropriate.
• Prepare partnership briefs, updates, and summaries to support leadership communication and engagement activities.
• Lead planning and logistics for Institute programmes and events, including student programmes, inter-professional grand rounds, community forums, and partner convenings.
• Manage event operations such as venue coordination, vendor management, catering, audiovisual needs, registration systems, run-of-show, and on-site execution.
• Utilise tools such as Qualtrics, RedCap, Eventbrite, or Excel for tracking attendance and engagement.
• Partner with marketing and communications teams to develop promotional materials and post-event communications.
• Supervise 2 programme staff, and graduate students.
• Establish and maintain accurate records, files, and documentation systems for programmes, partnerships, and events.
• Support development of materials for presentations, annual reports, grant updates, and external-facings communications.
• Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and recommend improvements to leadership.
