Job summary

Shelter House is seeking a Director to oversee Kennedy Emergency Shelter operations at Fort Belvoir, VA, serving up to 50 single-adult households. You will lead Emergency Shelter, Hypothermia, Drop-In, and Outreach programs and collaborate with Fairfax County to advance homelessness prevention initiatives.

The role requires strong leadership, staff supervision, and program management skills, with responsibilities spanning policy development, budgeting, and performance improvement in alignment

Qualifications

• Four or more years of progressive leadership, program management, and staff supervision experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent organizational abilities.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for Emergency Shelter, Hypothermia, Drop‑In, and Outreach programs.
• Participate in Continuum of Care (CoC) meetings to strengthen partnerships and advance the Ten-Year Plan.
• Supervise the Assistant Director of Programs, Assistant Director of Shelter Operations, Kitchen Manager, and Custodian.
• Support case management practices and crisis intervention as part of program oversight.
• Ensure compliance with HMIS requirements and quality of client documentation.
• Coordinate staffing during weather events, emergencies, and incidents.
• Manage program budgets in collaboration with the Finance Department.
