Job summary

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is seeking a Program Director in New York City to lead initiatives for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role emphasizes empathetic leadership, fostering independence, and maintaining regulatory compliance, ensuring a high quality of life for those supported.

The Program Director will provide supervision, monitor quality improvement, and collaborate with the Human Resources Department to retain skilled staff. A Bachelor’s Degree and relevant experience are preferred for applicants.

  • Mastery in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and personal care.
  • Ability to provide mentoring and leadership to staff.

Position Overview

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is hiring a Program Director to support people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to live meaningful lives. The Program Director will be an empathetic and compassionate leader focused on enhancing the quality of life for all people supported in their respective program. They will lead staff, ensure continuous improvement, meet regulatory and quality standards, and provide 24‑hour support in emergency situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Person Centered Planning
  • Ensures that a person‑centered focus is used to provide care and support by all staff within the residence
  • Ensures a positive climate that promotes respect and dignity for people supported
  • Supports the person’s independence, choice and outcomes
  • Participates in the screening, admission and discharge of people within the residence to ensure a smooth transition of support
  • Promotes participation in activities of meaningful daily living, such as vocation, recreation, spirituality
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and personalized support to meet requirements, requests, and concerns
  • Provides opportunities for people support to personalize their environment
Leadership
  • Provides leadership and direction for the residence through observation, mentoring, coaching, and other activities
  • Maintains all records and systems and ensures staff are properly trained and supported
  • Ensures all staff are trained in all aspects of each person’s life including health protocols, personal choice and outcomes
  • Leads meetings with all stakeholders to ensure participation for all members of each person’s circle of support
  • Represents the division and organization by participating on DD councils and IAC committees
  • Coaches and mentors all staff under supervision
  • Understands and applies appropriate techniques for conflict resolution, crisis prevention, intervention and resolution
  • Provides round‑the‑clock responsiveness as part of emergency notifications and assistance
  • Ensures that the program operates within its established budget
  • Partners with the Human Resources Department in all efforts relevant to hiring, developing and retaining staff
Regulatory
  • Maintains all records in compliance with OPWDD regulations
  • Ensures observations are completed across all staffing shifts
  • Ensures all health care needs are met and all staff are trained in the needs of the people we support
  • Ensures all Fire Safety Regulations are met
  • Ensures all agency policies and procedures are followed
  • Partners with the Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement team to ensure all standards relative to the residences are met
Quality Improvement
  • Continually monitors program to look for areas that could improve
  • Ensures that the CARF philosophy is implemented, and reassessed accordingly
  • Ensures that the program is continuously requesting feedback from all stakeholders

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with people with IDD
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • AMAP, SCIP‑R, CPR & First Aid (training provided if needed)
  • Basic computer skills (eg. MS Office suite and Windows)
  • Driver’s License preferred
