Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County is seeking a hands-on Director of Programs to oversee affordable housing programs, including construction, homeowner services, and grant-funded initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will manage projects, schedules, budgets, and compliance to advance our mission.

The ideal candidate has strong project management, familiarity with residential construction or affordable housing, and the ability to lead multiple programs and relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, social service, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in construction management, affordable housing, or program leadership preferred.
  • Prior experience writing and managing grants preferred Real Estate experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Construction & Project Management: Develop and recommend construction plans to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate the construction of housing units by managing volunteers, contractors, staff, and material procurement.
  • Oversee construction schedules, budgets, quality, and safety.
  • Homeowner Services & Compliance: Lead homeowner orientation, underwriting, and selection processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements related to mortgage origination and house closings.
  • Serve as a liaison and support for partner families throughout the homeownership process.
  • Grant Sourcing & Program Funding: Work alongside the Executive Director to identify, research, and pursue grant opportunities to support housing programs and operations.
  • Write, submit, and manage grant applications and required reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Board to align grant strategies with organizational priorities and funding needs.
  • Track outcomes and ensure compliance with grant requirements and timelines.

Director of Programs Reports To: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County is seeking a hands-on, mission-driven Director of Programs to oversee the day-to-day implementation of our affordable housing programs, including construction, homeowner services, and grant-supported initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs provides operational leadership and oversight of Habitat’s housing programs, ensuring projects are well coordinated, compliant, on schedule, and aligned with organizational priorities. This position works closely with staff, volunteers, contractors, partner families, and community partners to move Habitat’s mission from vision to implementation. The ideal candidate brings strong project management skills, knowledge of residential construction and/or affordable housing, and the ability to manage multiple programs and relationships while working collaboratively as part of a small, mission-driven team.

Serving La Plata County, HFHLPC is an independent, locally run 501(c)(3) affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We help families of low and moderate incomes become homeowners by building and partnering to create affordable housing and fostering partnerships that promote spiritual values and individual responsibility.

  • Understanding of underwriting, mortgage origination, and affordable housing compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant research, writing, and reporting.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, volunteers, and partner families.
  • Experience managing small teams and fostering a collaborative environment.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay: $42,000–$58,000 per year
