Job summary

Habitat for Humanity of Boone County is seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic, operational, fundraising and community leadership for the organization. This role serves as the chief executive officer and reports to the Board, driving the affiliate’s mission and sustainable growth in Boone County.

The Executive Director will lead fundraising, oversee construction and family services, manage staff and volunteers, and build strong community partnerships to expand affordable housing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Progressively responsible leadership experience, including the ability to lead people, complex initiatives or organizational operations.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships or capital campaign funding.
  • Experience leading an organization, major business unit, nonprofit affiliate or similarly complex operation.
  • Ability to work effectively with boards, donors, volunteers, staff and community stakeholders.
  • Strong financial, organizational and business management capability.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining effective in a hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Board to establish priorities, advance the mission and ensure long-term organizational and financial sustainability.
  • Build staffing, systems, processes and accountability needed for effective operations and future growth.
  • Personally lead fundraising strategy and execution across individual, corporate, foundation, faith-based and governmental sources.
  • Cultivate major donors and strategic partners, diversify revenue and engage Board members in fundraising and donor development.
  • Lead real estate development, site acquisition, construction planning, project sequencing and the sale of completed homes.
  • Oversee new home construction, home repair and preservation activities, safety, annual build schedules, house pricing, budgets and cost-saving measures.
  • Serve as the board’s primary executive partner and advisor, providing transparent updates on financial performance, fundraising, operations, strategic initiatives and organizational risks.
  • Provide overall leadership for construction, homeownership and family services, repair and preservation programs, volunteer engagement and ReStore operations.
  • Serve as the affiliate’s primary spokesperson and ambassador, strengthening relationships with government, civic, business, faith and nonprofit partners.
  • Recruit, develop and retain a high-performing staff and volunteer organization with clear expectations and accountability.
  • Foster a mission-driven culture centered on service, stewardship, inclusion and community impact.

Habitat for Humanity of Boone County is seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic, operational, fundraising and community leadership for the organization. This person serves as the chief executive officer and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The position advances the organization’s mission, strengthens fundraising and community support, ensures financial sustainability, leads staff and volunteers and guides the affiliate’s long-term success. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry dedicated to bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. The executive director accepts the affiliate covenant of Habitat for Humanity International and works collaboratively with the board, staff, volunteers and community partners to expand affordable housing opportunities throughout Boone County. The Board seeks a visible, relationship-oriented leader with demonstrated fundraising success, prior leadership experience, strong business acumen and a record of building effective organizations and community partnerships.

Strategic leadership and organizational stewardship

Community leadership and advocacy
  • Serve as the affiliate’s primary spokesperson and ambassador, strengthening relationships with government, civic, business, faith and nonprofit partners.
  • Advance awareness of affordable housing needs and Habitat’s impact throughout Boone County.
Team leadership and culture
  • Recruit, develop and retain a high-performing staff and volunteer organization with clear expectations and accountability.
