Job Summary

The University of Michigan Wolverine Pathways is a supplementary college preparatory program serving scholars in grades 7 through 12 who reside in Ypsilanti, Detroit, Southfield, and Grand Rapids. As a Program Coordinator, you will develop and administer programming and field events, and also design a system of incentives to build community among WP scholars, support their engagement with WP, and cultivate their sense of identity as Wolverine Pathways scholars. These coordinator responsibilities will complement your role as a Success Coach charged with supporting scholar connection, engagement, and flourishing on a more individualized basis. As a Success Coach, you will be a mentor and academic advisor, and an advocate focused on supporting the academic success, socio-emotional well-being, and high school and college readiness of secondary students enrolled in Wolverine Pathways. Your goal is to complement and extend the college preparatory support provided by a scholar's family and school, helping your scholar advisees maximize educational and extracurricular opportunities consistent with their interests and selective college admission. We are looking for candidates with experience engaging youth in interactive activities.

You will report directly to the Senior Program Manager, and this position is hybrid, requiring work on-site in Ann Arbor, Michigan. You will work on some Saturdays as the program schedule requires.

Responsibilities*
  • Manage an incentive and recognition program aimed at rewarding scholar engagement in the program and their excellence and distinction inside and outside of Wolverine Pathways. Work requires securing gifts, prizes, or opportunities through outreach to campus entities and local organizations.
  • Design community-building activities and institute community rituals to support scholar connection and engagement with each other and identification with WP during in-person days and summer sessions.
  • Curate and deliver learning opportunities and advising and program sequences that support scholars' exploration and development consistent with WP goals.
  • Recruit, build relationships and collaborate with partners to help support programming work.
  • Assist senior program manager with administrative/logistical tasks and with building additional programming as warranted.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of experience designing or facilitating engaging curriculum for youth or leading pep rallies.
  • Personal or professional connections to Detroit or in forging collaborations with schools or organizations in the city of Detroit or similar urban areas.
  • Knowledge or experience with interactive exercises, activities, rituals, and practices that cultivate youth leadership, agency, voice, and self-expression or facilitates community building and collective identities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience advising, guidance counseling, college coaching, life coaching, or youth mentoring, advocacy and development; and ability to manage advising caseload.
  • Experience brokering and sustaining relationships and collaborations with varied constituencies.
  • Comfort engaging youth both online and in-person following the hybrid nature of Wolverine Pathways.
  • Experience with project or organizational programming and implementation.
  • Experience serving underrepresented communities.
