Job description

AAI is seeking a creative, energetic teammate who enjoys people, logistics, and the world of outdoor recreation. This entry-level role supports the day‑to‑day operations behind our satellite programs and is a great starting point for someone who wants to grow into a knowledgeable, participant‑facing position within the organization.

You’ll handle a mix of office operations, light retail support, and facility tasks while learning the details of AAI’s programs. With time and training, you’ll develop the expertise to confidently advise and register participants by phone and email, helping them prepare for meaningful mountain experiences.

A background in climbing or mountaineering is helpful, but not required. Curiosity, organization, and enthusiasm for the outdoors matter most.

Requirements:

A general familiarity with word processing and data base programs; an ability to type accurately and with good speed.

  • An ability to speak articulately, comfortably, and clearly on the phone, conveying sincere interest and enthusiasm in the topics being discussed.
  • An ability to write clearly, creatively, and effectively.
  • An ability to become familiar with AAI programs and to gradually develop the skills to describe them accurately.
  • An ability to attend to routine office management duties with precision.
  • An ability to work with a high level of energy, commitment, and personal responsibility.
  • An ability to assist with retail and facilities when needed.
Attributes Helpful to Longer Term Advancement
  • Experience in and understanding of mountaineering and outdoor recreation a degree that will eventually allow you to understand AAI programs thoroughly and counsel participants on their choice of programs
  • If you don’t have climbing experience but would like to learn, employees may attend courses without charge.
