Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university.
  • Three years of related experience in program planning/coordination, or one year with a Master's degree, or five years with an Associate degree/60 hours, or seven years with a high school diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support student clubs and organizations (NHS, Student Council) and assist with events such as information sessions, orientations, and seminars.
  • Oversee program implementation and ensure activities align with objectives.

Scope of Job

To assist in the operation of a program or multiple projects,exercising independent judgment and authority as required dedicatedto working with High School students in collaboration with theOffice of Community Engagement, Office of Engaged Scholarship &Learning, and several UTRGV faculty in identifying researchopportunities, local scholarship opportunities, and communitypartnerships.

Description of Duties
  • Responsible for coordinating and supporting student Clubs andOrganizations (NHS and Student Council) and assisting with eventswhich include, but are not limited to Information Sessions, NewStudent Immersion, Summer Bridge, Orientations, Graduation, monthlystudent seminars/workshops, campus instructional activities,student socio/emotional activities, student wellnessactivities.
  • Coordinates program to ensure that implementation andprescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specifiedobjectives.
  • Supervises and manages the day-to-day activities and personnelof the assigned program.
  • Develops and supervises the implementation of multiple projectsor programs.
  • Participates in budget planning and is responsible forcontrolling expenditures in accordance with budget allocations forthe program.
  • Identifies and connects students with suitable researchopportunities across various university departments and coordinateswith university faculty to create research internships and projectstailored to the student's interests and strengths.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to students in navigatingresearch programs, including application processes, projectselection, and presentation of their research findings.
  • Identifies local businesses, non-profits, and communityorganizations who offer volunteer opportunities to support MSAhigh-school community service efforts.
  • Organizes community service events and projects, fostering aculture of volunteerism and community involvement amongstudents.
  • Provides students with information on available communityservice opportunities and assists them in finding suitableplacements.
  • Sponsors, oversees, and meets with students for Clubs andOrganizations of the Math and Science Academy (MSA) (ex. StudentCouncil and National Honor Society).
  • Manages and monitors the MSA's social media pages.
  • Assists others in writing and developing proposals for fundinggrants.
  • Coordinates long and short-term programs, including performingfeasibility studies and estimating the cost of the program.
  • Represents department in official functions.
  • Reviews program records and reports of activities andrecommends modifications to methods or procedures as required.
  • Drafts brochures, letters, agendas, and contracts.
  • May plan, develop, organize, and coordinate research and surveydesigns.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to theprogram's mission and goals.
  • Supervises and organizes seminars, conferences, andpresentations.
  • Provides appropriate reports as required for the project orprogram.
  • Provides ongoing staff development, on site demonstrations andfield based experiences related to project or program.
  • Conducts formal training or gives instruction regarding programpolicies and procedures.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships withinternal/external departments/agencies and other organizationsassociated with and/or receiving benefit from the program.
  • May coordinate and oversee tutorial, counseling, teaching,and/or training activities of the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience performing closely relatedduties, including program planning/coordination or relatedexperience in the appropriate field of the program, or
  • One (1) year of the required experience with a Master's degree,or
  • Five (5) years of the required experience with an AssociateDegree or 60 hours of College Credit, or
  • Seven (7) years of the required experience with a High SchoolDiploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Video Conferencing Equipment, DigitalCamera and Videography Devices, Presentation Tools

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties.Normal office or classroom or outside environment. Some travel andweekend work is required. Particular project or program may requireability to drive a car for local or distant travel forconsultation, training, meetings, or on site demonstrations. Mustbe able to bend, stoop, reach and lift for retrieving/maintainingfiles and for setting up multimedia equipment. Must be able to movebetween buildings, offices and classrooms. UTRGV is a distributedinstitution, which may require presence at multiple locationsthroughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff,students, and the public. Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills.Independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
