Job summary

The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) in South Carolina seeks an experienced supervisor to lead OSHA compliance officers in inspections, investigations, and enforcement. You'll guide investigations, review evidence, and train staff, while engaging with stakeholders across management, labor, and government.

  • Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
  • SC OSHA Training program or 5+ years’ experience with state OSHA programs.
  • Knowledge of methods and equipment to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Knowledge of testing equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on State OSHA regulations (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety rules, laws and principles.

Responsibilities


  • You will plan and direct OSHA compliance officers who conduct inspections and investigations.

  • You will review inspection and investigative reports, including analyzing evidence and assisting with recommendations on courses of action.

  • You will supervise compliance officers and provide training and development opportunities for personnel, as appropriate.

  • You will conduct on-the-job evaluations of compliance officers and advise and recommend courses of action for handling problems related to inspections and investigations.

  • You will provide advice and assistance on complex issues related to OSHA inspections at informal conferences, serve as a witness in hearings, and attend other meetings related to fatalities and complex investigations.

  • You will perform other duties including, but not limited to, conducting interviews, evaluating equipment, and participating in strategic plan goals.


Minimum Qualifications


  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • A bachelor's degree and three (3) years of relevant program experience.

  • Successful completion of the SC OSHA Training program or five (5) years’ experience with state Occupational Safety and Health programs.

  • Thorough and proficient knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used to correct unsafe conditions.

  • Thorough and proficient knowledge of different types of testing equipment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely on State Occupational Safety and Health Regulations in oral and written form.

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal safety rules, laws and principles, methods and standards.

  • Ability to identify safety and health hazards in various industrial and construction industries.

  • Proficient at MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with management, labor, and government officials at all levels.

  • Ability to lead and advise subordinate staff members.

  • Ability to prepare documentation and provide testimony necessary to satisfy legal requirements.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.

  • Ability to make decisions and interpret state rules and regulations.


Other Requirements


  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.

  • Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.

  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch.

  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain.

  • Ability to determine and identify hazards in the work environment.

  • Ability to wear PPE without adverse effects to the wearer's health.

  • Occasional travel and overnight stays.
