Position Summary : Under the supervision of the Department on Aging Director, the Program Coordinator is involved with assisting in the planning and directing of the activities of the Department on Aging program. The work involves Program Management for all grant-funded programs administered by the Department on Aging, and clerical and communications work for the department. The Program Coordinator assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director in his/her absence. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, but the Program Coordinator is free to develop own work sequences within established policies and procedures. This position is included in the KDOT drug/alcohol testing program.
Certificate, License : Valid driver's license
Required Education and/or Experience: Four years related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after twelve months in the position. Experience dealing with the care and needs of senior citizens. Experience in budget preparation and oversight. 40 Hours of continuing education is required annually.
Preferred Education and/or Experience : Five years related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university and one year of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in gerontology, nursing, health, social work, counseling, human development and family studies or related area.
Problem Solving : Problem solving exists in this position relative to determination of appropriate service for clients, making referrals to appropriate agency and maximizing funding dollars.
Decision Making : Decision-making exists in this position. Problems include making administrative decisions in the Director’s absence, determination of appropriate services and referring to appropriate agency.
Accountability : Employee is responsible for management of federal, state and county funds, under the direct supervision of the Director.
Supervision : Limited supervision is provided; job related decisions are reviewed by the Director. Employee is responsible for supervision of the Senior Companions, employees connected with the General Public Transportation project, and all staff members in the Director’s absence. May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include coaching, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Personal Relationships : Continual contact with other governmental agencies, volunteer organizations, service agencies and the general public.
