Salary Range: $16.67 To $23.33 Hourly

Position Summary : Transports elderly, persons with disabilities and General Public Transportation riders from one location to another in the safest manner possible by means of the KDOT vans stationed at the Butler County Department on Aging. Applicant must have a neat appearance and a sincere desire to work with the general public, especially the elderly and

people with disabilities. Employee must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. This position is included in the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) drug and alcohol testing program.

Examples of Work (Essential Functions) :
  • Transports elderly, persons with disabilities and general public riders in a safe and courteous manner;
  • Changes destination routes as directed by TransportationCoordinator;
  • Collects fares, logs on trip sheets, counts fares daily withCoordinator;
  • Complies with countywide and department policies andprocedures;
  • Follows county safety and operational rules andprocedures;
  • Maintains daily tripsheets;
  • Operates all job related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids asrequired, necessary, or needed in the performance of these jobfunctions;
  • Performs daily pre-trip vehicleinspections;
  • Writes reports in coherent, legiblemanner;
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Certificate, License : Valid commercial driver's license. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Required Education and/or Experience: One to three months related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D. and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position. Commercial driving experience.

Preferred Education and/or Experience : Three to six months related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D. and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Abilities, Knowledge, Skills :
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's;
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnishedin written, oral, or diagramform;
  • Ability to be highlyorganized;
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables instandardized situations;
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of communications; conveying detailedor important instructions and information to the generalpublic;
  • Ability to load/unload and secure people in wheelchairs onto vehicles using different types oflifts;
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money andweight measurement, volume, anddistance;
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, andmemos;
  • Ability to write simplecorrespondence;
  • Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employeesof theorganization;
  • Ability to read and disseminate map and manifestinformation;
  • Ability to read and interpret a map, speak clearly, hear accurately, andinteract courteously with the public;
  • Ability to reliably and predictably carry outduties;
  • Ability to use good judgment in emergencysituations;
  • Ability to work with and communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively withpeople, both in person and by telephone; sensitivity to the needs of elderly and disabled persons;

Accountability : Employee is accountable for fares collected throughout work shift. Employee is responsible for daily pre-trip van inspections, trip records, safety of passengers, and the care of vans and related equipment. Employee is responsible for reporting real or suspected problems with vans and related equipment to Transportation Coordinator.

Supervision : Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.

Personal Relationships : Continual contact with the general public and service providers; infrequent contact with other county employees.
