Job summary

Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) in Oxnard, CA, is seeking a Coordinator for its OFY-RR Funds Project within the Behavioral Wellness department. The role leads the OFY team, ensuring trauma-informed, youth-centered support for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Unaccompanied Minors in Ventura County.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with immigrant legal services, and ensure data, progress notes, and reports are completed with confidentiality and cultural responsiveness.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience supervising paid staff and providing staff support or coaching.
• High proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
• Experience in case management, youth services, community organizing, or working with immigrant and/or Indigenous communities is highly desired.

ABOUT MIXTECO INDIGENA COMMUNITY ORGANIZING PROJECT

Founded in 2001, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) supports, organizes and empowers the indigenous migrant communities of California’s Central Coast through improved access to health and community resources, community organizing, language interpretation, education, direct assistance, cultural promotion, and our indigenous-led Radio Indígena community radio station. MICOP offers a fast-paced, multilingual and multicultural work environment dedicated to carrying out our mission.

Summary

MICOP's OFY-RR Funds Project program takes a trauma-informed, youth-centered approach to supporting Indigenous and non-Indigenous Undocumented Unaccompanied Minors living in Ventura and County. A majority of the youth experience trauma due to a number of reasons, including arriving in the U.S. after being forced to leave their home countries, being held in immigration detention, being separated from their families, the isolation of living in a new country, as well as the pressure of navigating the U.S. immigration system. The need to access resources, advocacy, and follow-up is extensive for both youth and their sponsors. The Coordinator is expected to provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to the OFY team while ensuring youth and their sponsors receive consistent, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit, train, and supervise MICOP'sOFY-RR Funds Projectstaff in Ventura County.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and support to OFY staff in delivering direct services using strength-based, youth-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approaches.
• Monitor case management activities, documentation, referrals, and follow-up to ensure participant needs and program requirements are being met.
• Identify and partner with local community resource providers and maintain strong community partnership relationships.
• Coordinate and assist in designing and implementing workshops, series, and reunions for youth and their sponsors.
• Coordinate and partner with MICOP’s immigrant legal services team and other internal programs to ensure effective support and referrals.
• Coordinate communication and collaboration among OFY staff, MICOP programs, community partners, and service providers.
• Work closely with the OFY team to complete progress notes, progress reports, data entry, and other required documentation.
• In collaboration with the Program Manager, develop timely notes and information needed to prepare program progress reports.
• Track program metrics and monitor progress toward OFY program goals and outcomes.
• Support the Program Manager in identifying program needs, addressing challenges, and implementing strategies to meet program goals.
• Represent MICOP in CDSS OFY-related activities and meetings in Ventura County.
• Participate in OFY team meetings, trainings, workshops, and other program-related activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure staff follow organizational, program, and data privacy requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience supervising paid staff and providing staff support or coaching.
• Experience in case management, youth services, community organizing, or working with immigrant and/or Indigenous communities is highly desired.
• Passion for the mission of supporting, empowering, and organizing the Indigenous migrant community on California’s Central Coast.
• Proven ability to prioritize workload, collaborate, and work effectively as part of a team.
• Self-motivated with the ability to execute projects independently.
• Demonstrated ability to use strength-based, youth-centered, and trauma-informed approaches to service delivery.
• Ability to plan, organize, and execute program goals.
• High proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language, highly desired.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and verbal skills.
• Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends when needed.
• Have reliable transportation, and be comfortable transporting youth and other community members.

Experience

• BA in Psychology or related humanities degree, AA in Psychology or related humanities degree OR experience in the mental health or immigration sector.
• 2+ years coordinating services for youth, families or community, and/or similar efforts in advocacy for immigration rights
• Experience supervising and managing a professional team.
• Experience in advocacy for migrant rights.
• Direct experience working with Mixteco/ Indigenous families and/or the community.
