Job summary

MIXTECO INDIGENA COMMUNITY ORGANIZING PROJECT (MICOP) in Oxnard seeks a Community Advocate to advance social, health, and environmental justice for Indigenous migrants on California's Central Coast. This full-time role focuses on relationship-building, policy advocacy, and program coordination.

You will organize meetings, host leadership committees, collect data and testimonies, and collaborate with local government, nonprofits, and community groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Community or Ethnic Studies, or a related field, preferred; in lieu of a degree, equivalent years of experience accepted.
• Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or related roles.
• Experience outreaching to the Indigenous Community and other Spanish-speaking communities.
• Bilingual in Mixteco, Spanish, and/or English.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships within the community, including residents, organizations, and local leaders.
• Act as a bridge between the community and external entities, ensuring effective communication.
• Lead and host meetings, workshops and Indigenous leadership committees advancing justice.
• Advocacy and Outreach: identify and prioritize key issues and concerns within the community.
• Advocate for rights and well-being through public speaking, social media, and written communications.
• Organize and lead outreach programs, workshops, and events.
• Collaborate with local government agencies, non-profits, businesses, and stakeholders.
• Attend local, regional, and state meetings to stay informed.
• Capacity building: empower community members with resources and training.
• Mediate conflicts and mediate disputes within the community.
• Collect and report monthly data on individuals served and outcomes.
