Northwestern University in Evanston seeks an experienced administrative professional to support the Center for Global Studies and related initiatives. You will engage undergraduates, assist faculty with curricular development, and coordinate key academic programs including Practitioners in Residence and visiting professors.

The role manages student progress records, processes declarations and petitions, and helps plan events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of program or project administration experience.
  • Excellent writing and communication; detail-oriented with strong office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Update IS majors/minors on requirements and opportunities with campus partners.
  • Maintain database tracking student progress toward degree completion.
  • Process declarations and petitions; guide graduations and study abroad articulation.
  • Support curricular development and integration of visiting scholars into curriculum.
  • Administer logistics for the Practitioners in Residence program.
  • Coordinate with the RB Visiting Professor in International Studies and external partners.
  • Develop undergraduate engagement opportunities and oversee Global Café mentors and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Center for Global Studies seeks an experienced administrative professional to support several new initiatives. This role supports the Roberta Buffett International Studies Program by fostering undergraduate engagement, assisting faculty with curricular development, and coordinating key academic initiatives. Responsibilities include managing logistics for the Practitioners in Residence program and collaborating with the Buffett Institute on the Roberta Buffett Visiting Professor in International Studies. The position also involves maintaining relationships with visiting instructors, overseeing Global Café graduate mentors, and supporting event planning. Additionally, the role provides support to IS majors and minors on program requirements, maintains records of student progress toward degree completion, and processes forms related to declarations, graduation petitions, and study abroad articulation. The first 6 months require 5 days onsite. The target hiring range for this position will be between $53,000 - $68,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Specific Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Support
  • Update IS majors and minors on program requirements and targeted opportunities in collaboration with other Center for Global Studies units, the Roberta Buffett Institute, and the Global Learning Office among others.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database tracking student progress toward degree completion.
  • Process and submit required forms for major/minor declarations and provide guidance on petitions to graduate and study abroad articulation.
Faculty & Curriculum Support
  • Support faculty in advancing curricular development goals.
  • Assist with academic programming and integration of visiting scholars into curriculum.
Program & Partnership Coordination
  • Administer logistics for the Practitioners in Residence program.
  • Coordinate with the Buffett Institute on the Roberta Buffett (RB) Visiting Professor in International Studies.
  • Manage relationships with visiting instructors and external partners.
Events & Community Building
  • Develop and implement undergraduate engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee Global Café graduate mentors and support planning and execution of related events.
  • Facilitate programming that strengthens the IS community and promotes interdisciplinary engagement.
Miscellaneous

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree, OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • One-year program/project administration or other relevant experience.
