Job summary

COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 94 in West Chicago, IL seeks a Program Assistant Special Education to work with staff and students to achieve academic and personal goals.

Responsibilities

JOB TITLE Program Assistant Special Education

SUMMARY It is the responsibility of the Program Assistant to work closely with staff in assisting students to achieve individual student academic and personal objectives in order to become responsible and successful adults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and case managers to become familiar with curriculum and student accommodations according to IEP's.
  • Provide assistance to students with note taking, assignment completion, test taking, typing, computer use, etc.
  • Assist with adapting, preparing and copying of materials for specific instructional programs.
  • Use basic strategies and techniques for facilitating integration of students in various settings.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with students.
  • Assist with procedural classroom tasks as needed: Monitoring of assignment sheets, attendance, phone calls, office errands, monitoring of classroom supplies.
  • Reinforce lessons with individual students or small groups.
  • Perform informal and functional assessment activities, score objective tests.
  • Assist with supervision of students on field trips and/or extra-curricular activities.
  • Escort students to various locations.
  • Assist with student departures or arrivals.
  • Provide assistance with physical, occupational or speech therapy for students as needed.
  • Provide student assistance during evacuation drills (fire, tornado, crisis, etc.).
  • Assist with maintaining safety of classroom environment.
  • Call for medical services for students when needed.
  • Assist certified staff with classroom management.
  • Assist certified staff in maintaining information regarding student progress.
  • Assist certified staff with students' daily/weekly behavior plan.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None
Education, Certification, And Experience
  • ISBE license or paraprofessional letter of approval required
  • Experience working with students/youth preferred
  • An academic background in mathematics, science, reading, and writing preferred
  • CPR/AED Certified desired
Skills And Abilities
  • Must be able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
  • Ability to work independently, stay on task, multi-task, and take responsibility to complete assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner
