School Connect WA is seeking a committed Program Assistant (part-time) to join our Dearborn Park Elementary team, working directly with elementary students and partnering with teachers.

You will lead daily small-group and large-group literacy and math instruction using SCWA materials, create a structured, joyful learning environment, and collaborate with staff to support students furthest from educational justice.

Every day we help children reach their full potential through exceptional K-5 academic afterschool programs that close learning gaps, restore confidence and agency, and unite communities around children.**JOB OVERVIEW**School Connect WA is hiring a committed and compassionate Program Assistant (part-time) to join our Dearborn Park Elementary team. Working directly with elementary students and in close collaboration with Dearborn Park Elementary teachers, you will support students who are furthest from educational justice—many of whom are BIPOC, multilingual, from low-income households, and/or experiencing housing instability, and performing below grade-level.Program Assistants lead daily small-group (2-3) and large group (8-12) literacy and math instruction. The role calls for someone who can teach clearly, build trust, respond thoughtfully to student needs, and help create a structured, joyful, and relationship-rich learning environment where students grow academically and regain confidence in themselves as learners.**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES****Lead strong academic instruction*** Lead daily small-group literacy and math instruction using SCWA materials, and plans developed with school staff.* Prepare purposeful lessons that identify the learning goal, anticipate needed scaffolds, and make academic language accessible—especially for multilingual learners.* Use student work, assessment information, and classroom observations to adjust instruction, respond to learning gaps, and build on each student’s strengths.* Lead classroom with clear directions, smooth transitions, active participation, and appropriate checks for understanding.**Build a joyful, relationship-rich learning environment*** Create a classroom culture where students feel safe, known, challenged, and celebrated—and where high expectations are matched with patience and support.* Build consistent relationships with students, learn their strengths and needs, and help restore the confidence and agency that academic struggle can erode.* Guide behavior calmly, fairly, and consistently; teach routines clearly and reinforce persistence, responsibility, and respect.**Collaborate as one team*** Plan, teach, and problem-solve in close partnership with Dearborn Park Elementary teachers, instructional assistants, and SCWA staff, respecting the knowledge and role each person brings.* Communicate useful observations about student progress and needs, elevate concerns promptly, and protect student and family confidentiality.* Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to contribute; participate in planning, training, reflection, and feedback that strengthens instruction across the team.* Contribute to a staff culture marked by direct communication, shared responsibility, respect for school partners, and a student-first mindset.* Follow Dearborn Park Elementary and SCWA policies, safety practices, and professional boundaries at all times.**QUALIFICATIONS*** Experience supporting elementary-age students in a school, tutoring, afterschool, youth-development, or comparable learning setting.* Demonstrated ability to lead or support literacy and math instruction; confidence leading large and small instructional groups is required.* Strong relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills with students and adults.* Ability to provide structured instruction while remaining flexible, attentive, and responsive to individual learners.* Cultural humility and a genuine commitment to students and families from BIPOC, multilingual, low-income, and housing-insecure communities.* Dependability, sound judgment, openness to feedback, and the ability to contribute positively to a shared team culture.* Ability to meet school and organizational screening requirements, including a background check, before beginning work.**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**We welcome applicants whose experience comes through different paths. Retired or part-time teachers are highly encouraged to apply, as are current or former paraeducators, instructional assistants, tutors, youth-development professionals, and others with relevant experience helping children learn. A degree or teaching credential in education, child development, or a related field is valued, but equivalent experience will be fully considered.**SCHEDULE, COMPENSATION, AND ROLE CONTEXT*** Compensation is $22-$23 per hour.* The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:45–5:45 pm and follows the Seattle Public Schools calendar.* This is a part-time, on-site position based at Dearborn Park Elementary - 2820 S Orcas Street, 98108.* The role may include occasional planning meetings, training, or program activities as arranged in advance.* This is an active, student-facing role that includes moving between instructional spaces, working at student level, and supporting classroom routines and transitions.**EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY**School Connect WA is an equal opportunity employer.
