Job summary

The Salvation Army in Biloxi, MS is seeking a part-time Recreation Assistant to supervise children in daily activities at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Gulf Coast facility. The role involves indoor/outdoor recreation, education, and arts & crafts, with a 19-hour weekly schedule (Mon-Sat).

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least six months’ experience with children, and CPR/First Aid certifications (Infant/Child CPR preferred). A valid state driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of First Aid and CPR and ability to ensure the safety of children.
• Monitor children’s activities to ensure their health and safety; knowledge of rules and techniques of athletic sports.
• Build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages and lead and motivate participants in recreational activities.
• Respond to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate manner.

Job Details: Job Location: ALM-Ms Gulf Coast Ray and Joan Kroc Corps - Biloxi, MS 39530, Position Type: Part Time less than 20, Salary Range: $12.62 Hourly, Job Category: Recreation, Schedule/Hours: Monday-Saturday (19 hours per week).

This position is responsible for:

Assists with the supervision of children participating in activities provided within the RJKCCC, such as: Education, Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
• Ability to monitor children’s activities to ensure their health and safety. Knowledge of the standard rules and techniques of athletic sports such as baseball, basketball, and football, etc.
• Ability to build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages. Ability to lead and motivate people participating in recreational activities.
• Ability to lead and motivate people participating in recreational activities.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate manner.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
• Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:

• High school diploma or G.E.D., AND
• Six months experience working with children in educational, fitness, arts, crafts and other activities in a similar environment
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid state driver's license
