Job summary

University of Maryland, College Park seeks a data visualization specialist to implement and optimize our Power BI platform. You will create dashboards, develop queries, and deliver detailed reports that reveal project trends and insights across multiple systems.

Responsibilities include validating new dashboards on Power BI, e-Builder, Workday, and other platforms, supporting Project Controls, and producing ad-hoc briefing materials. Strong Python/SQL skills and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; four years of administrative staff experience preferred.
  • Strong data visualization and reporting skills with Python/SQL experience.
  • Experience with Power BI and data integration across platforms.

Responsibilities

Job Description Summary & Additional InformationOrganization's Summary Statement:This position involves assisting in the implementation and configuration of the department's data visualization on the PowerBI platform, ensuring seamless data integration and optimization. Key responsibilities include visualizing data through graphical representations, developing queries, generating comprehensive reports, and summarizing project data trends and insights through dashboards, charts, and tables. The role also entails analyzing and validating new reports, dashboards, and features within various digital platforms (e-Builder, KFS, FMS, Workday, and PowerBI) using Python and SQL, ensuring the accuracy and functionality of data-driven tools. Additionally, the incumbent will provide administrative support to the Project Controls team and e-Builder users, perform basic mathematical computations for summarizing project data, prepare ad-hoc reports including, but not limited to, monthly program briefing, Time Tracking Module (TTM) adjustments, Project Management Expense Recovery (PMER), and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructional manuals to support the department's continuous learning center mission.Physical Demands:While position is not physically demanding, the incumbent must be able to perform well under strict deadlines. Position requires limited lifting of project drawings sets and boxes of project files. Incumbent should be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Position may be mentally taxing, requiring incumbent to move rapidly and easily from one assignment to another. Travel to construction sites may be needed which requires ability to navigate uneven surfaces.This position is in a non-essential category and is telework eligible up to 2 days per week based on the needs of the department.Preferences:Experience with programming languages, i.e., Python, SQL, etc.Experience with project management information systems, i.e., e-Builder, etc.Experience with data visualization platforms, i.e., Power BI, Tableau, etc.Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, etc.Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.Experience handling sensitive materials with discretion and tact, and presenting ideas and information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Experience functioning in a team-oriented environment, taking on new tasks with enthusiasm and energy.Licenses/ Certifications:Although driving a State Vehicle is not a requirement for this position, travel by foot or vehicle may be required from time to time for meetings, deliveries, etc. across campus.
