Job summary

Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA seeks a robotics professor to join the School of Creative Technology and shape a progressive curriculum that spans multiple SCAD locations, engaging with industrial design, mechanical engineering, interaction design, animation, and immersive media.

You will lead the Body pillar of robotics education, guiding students from mechanical design and fabrication to behavior, character, and social responsiveness, while collaborating across software,

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in robotics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial design, or a relevant field.
• Academic and professional credentials to teach in robotics or a related discipline.
• Two or more years of professional experience in robotics, physical computing, mechanical design, or interactive systems — or equivalent post-secondary teaching experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design and fabrication, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, casting, or comparable production methods.
• Hands-on experience building and iterating on physical robotic platforms, including mechanisms, actuators, drive systems, and structural assemblies.
• Background in electronics, sensors, embedded systems, and the integration of hardware and software in physically embodied systems.
• Cross-disciplinary design experience or collaboration across industrial design, UX, animation, computation, or media arts.
• Background in studio-based teaching, iterative prototyping, and experiential learning.

Responsibilities

• Teach professional, positive, and engaging courses that cultivate curiosity and critical thinking.
• Design and approve syllabi, conduct office hours, and perform midterm grade reviews.
• Provide extra help sessions, extended learning opportunities, and field trips outside regular class hours.
• Fulfill grading and academic documentation requirements and participate in department and university-wide initiatives.
• Collaborate with software, simulation, AI, and ethics faculty to deliver integrated robotics education.
• Advocate for interdisciplinary collaboration and foster diverse perspectives and innovation.
