Job summary

North Carolina Central University is seeking a Chair for the Department of Music within the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities in Durham. The successful candidate will lead curriculum development, assessment, and strategic initiatives for undergraduate and graduate programs, including Jazz Studies.

The role requires a PhD or DMA in Music or related fields, a strong record of teaching and scholarship, and proven leadership in faculty development, budgeting, and program accreditation.

Qualifications

• PhD or DMA in Music or related field is required.
• Proven record of effective teaching and scholarly activity.
• Leadership experience in promoting teaching, research, service and program development.

Responsibilities

• Promote a vision that supports the goals of the department, College and University.
• Develop and implement procedures to recruit, retain, graduate and place students.
• Promote innovative teaching and learning with emphasis on student success.
• Conduct an annual assessment of program learning outcomes for all degree programs.
• Conduct scheduled academic program reviews and develop new degree programs as appropriate.
