Job summary

The UM01 University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) seeks a dedicated and experienced Director of Jazz Studies to lead its program starting in the 2026–2027 academic year. Candidates must have a strong national and/or international performance record in jazz and advanced qualifications in music.

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching, recruiting students, and contributing to an inclusive environment within the School of Music, while maintaining active performance visibility locally and nationally.

Qualifications

• Record of national and/or international accomplishments in jazz music.
• Demonstrated pedagogical success in teaching.
• Leadership experience to manage a collegiate jazz studies program.

Responsibilities

• Lead the UMD Jazz Ensemble(s) and mentor students.
• Teach courses on jazz culture, history, theory, and composition.
• Recruit diverse graduate and undergraduate students.
• Promote engagement with the local community and jazz institutions.
• Contribute to an equitable and inclusive scholarly environment.
