Position Summary | Applications are invited for a tenured faculty position to serve as Professor and Chair in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. This is a 9-month appointment as a faculty member with a 10-month for chair responsibilities which will continue for the duration of the appointment as chair. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department Chair is responsible for providing visionary leadership and administrative oversight to advance the teaching, scholarship, and service mission of the Department. This includes planning and executing a strategic direction for the department, building and managing the schedule of classes, supporting faculty development, and ensuring high quality educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, this role includes managing personnel matters, stewarding departmental resources, and advocating for the department within the university and to external stakeholders. The Chair reports to the Dean of Health and Human Sciences and is supported by administrative staff, with some administrative responsibilities delegated to the faculty through directed professional activities (e.g., associate chair, program directors). In addition to administrative responsibilities, the department chair may be expected to contribute to the department through research/scholarship, teaching and student mentoring in areas of expertise, and appropriate university and professional service. |
Minimum Qualifications | REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must: * Hold a doctoral degree in kinesiology or in a sub-discipline of kinesiology * Have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the rank of full professor * Demonstrate a commitment to support an inclusive community among a diverse group of students and faculty |
Preferred Qualifications | PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate may hold the following preferred qualities: * Have previous leadership experience such as chairing a department, directing a program, or leading a center. * Have previous administrative experience such as strategic planning, personnel management, or budgetary oversight. * Possess strong interpersonal skills as evidenced by successful collaboration or consensus building * Experience with multiple modes of instruction including face-to-face, online, synchronous, and asynchronous. |
