The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. They are responsible for setting standards for the level and quality of care, managing and providing patient care activities, and collaborating with the healthcare team. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes and demonstrates a commitment to the community and nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Understand and respect cultural differences, maintain healthy relationships, and promote safe work hours and lifestyles. Communicate safety hazards promptly.
- Apply adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and staff. Provide detailed education to facilitate care transitions and support development of colleagues and students, possibly serving as a preceptor. Foster an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.
- Use the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Set daily goals and care plans involving the patient as a partner, considering holistic needs. Demonstrate critical thinking in addressing clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues. Communicate effectively and document comprehensively to promote team communication. Incorporate organizational goals to enhance safety, quality, and satisfaction. Build compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Take accountability for professional growth to enhance practice and patient care quality. Engage in unit-based governance, goal setting, and quality improvement initiatives. Respond willingly to team needs, participate in improving care and work environment, and adapt to change.
- Participate in quality improvement efforts, identify opportunities, and use research and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical care. Discuss research findings, contribute to multidisciplinary rounds, and influence patient care plans.
