Nurse Educator (RN) - Medical/Surgical (UPMC West Shore)

The Nurse Educator will oversee education opportunities for medical/surgical nursing departments at West Shore Hospital.

This includes two units with neuro and oncology populations.

Position Details:
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week, salaried
  • Travel within UPMC Central PA region
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, primarily days; no holidays; minimal weekends (planned in advance for staff education, orientation, onboarding)

Preferred: Specialty Certification; Flexible Work Environment; Team-oriented Atmosphere; Autonomous Role

Purpose:

The Nurse Educator, a registered nurse, is responsible for delivering nursing education, including orientation and ongoing staff support. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to assess, plan, and implement educational programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Build relationships internally and externally; mentor and model positive communication; acknowledge contributions; foster transparency; communicate effectively; perform related duties.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts; utilize research and evidence-based practice; identify research opportunities.
  • Receive feedback constructively; mentor new staff and preceptors; serve as a resource; participate in performance improvement; pursue professional development; maintain certifications; engage in professional organizations; develop coaching skills.
  • Facilitate orientation and continuing education; teach patient care management; develop standards and policies; identify learning needs; evaluate programs; promote patient education.
  • Be aware of behavioral impacts; lead hospital-wide projects; handle complex assignments; apply innovative problem-solving; facilitate student experiences.
  • Verify staff competencies; ensure training addresses gaps; plan and implement skill development.
